Christopher Manney’s Story

Dan O’Donnell did an outstanding piece of journalism with this interview of ex-officer Christopher Manney. Manney was the officer who was cleared of any wrongdoing in the self-defense killing of Dontre Hamilton in Milwaukee. Despite being fully justified, Manney was crucified in the media, hung out to dry by the police chief, and driven into hiding by threats to his family and himself. The guy’s life was destroyed despite the fact that he made the hard decisions – and correct decisions – in a split second that we expect from police officers every day.

Take the time and listen to the whole interview.

Dontre Hamilton Protesters Disrupt Tree Lighting

What a bunch of goons.

MILWAUKEE —Protesters are interrupting the city/county tree-lighting ceremony.

They are calling for justice in the death of Dontre Hamilton at Red Arrow Park.

[…]

Protesters were trying to drown out the Lincoln Center of the Arts Choir.

And stupid to boot… how does this make people support their cause?

But this is partly the fault of Chief Flynn and Mayor Barrett. They have indulged these malcontents for far too long.

Hamilton Protesters Move to Chicago

At least Milwaukee was protest free for a day. Unfortunately, another baby was killed by thugs firing into a house. I doubt there will be protests against the thugs.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Saturday told relatives and supporters of a Milwaukee man killed by a city police officer that he will continue to draw attention to the case and what he and other critics say is a pattern of injustice.

“We cannot stand by and let this happen without saying something,” the civil rights leader told a crowd of about 200 people during a rally at his Rainbow PUSH Coalition Headquarters in Chicago.

For the Hamilton protesters, I ask this with all sincerity… what do you want? It is truly tragic that a mentally ill man was killed in a violent confrontation. The evidence is clear that Hamilton armed himself with the officer’s baton and was in the process of beating him when the officer shot Hamilton in justified self-defense. To demand that the officer be prosecuted would be an injustice. If the protesters want more sensitivity for mentally ill people or training, they are already getting that. What else? Do they just want money? Is that what this is all about?

For the life of me, I don’t know what they want anymore. Although it took far too long, a thorough investigation was done and the facts tell us that, while tragic, Hamilton lost his life as a consequence of his violent attack of a police officer. No amount of protesting will change those facts.

Dontre Hamilton Shooting was Justified

So the DA decides.

MILWAUKEE —Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said the fatal shooting of Dontre Hamilton in Red Arrow Park was ‘justified self-defense.’

Based on the evidence we have, the DA made the right call. That still doesn’t excuse why the decision too so blasted long. Let’s hope that the mob will be sensible and not trash the city for a good charging decision.
