Common Core info meeting Sunday

There’s a large informational meeting Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at Germantown’s Kennedy Middle School regarding the new Common Core standards in education. Germantown school board member Brian Medved said Common Core is “definitely a difficult topic to understand and that’s why we’re bringing in the experts.”

Guest speakers include Dr. Sandra Stotsky, one of the foremost authorities on curriculum standards. “She was in the room when the Common Core standards were created,” Medved said. “Stotsky was also instrumental in assisting the Germantown School District in writing its own standards.”  Other speakers include Joy Pullman, a research fellow on education policy for The Heartland Institute, Dr. Gary Thompson, a noted clinical psychologist and Rick Essenberg, founder and current President and General Counsel of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty.

“We need more parents involved at the local level so they can help make decisions that affect their children,” Medved said. The cost of the program is $10 for a family, $9 per individual reserved seating and $5 at the door.
