US President Donald Trump has said he is ending negotiations over a Covid-19 relief bill, and will only resume talks after the election.
“Immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans,” he tweeted one day after leaving hospital.
Budget talks between Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had been underway.
We don’t need another massive spending bill. We might need a few targeted infusions or policy adjustments, but not an omnibus monster. But Pelosi and Schumer never had any intention of passing anything before the election. They are just moving the goal posts to keep it in the news cycle. Trump was smart to drop it. And I hope it stays dropped after the election.
That may be true for you Owen but politically this is
an amazingly self destructive act .
The ONLY area where Trump is even in the polls is
in the economy .
Handing this issue to the Dems may make you happy,
but since it wouldn’t happen until after the election
anyway , this is an unforced error .

In a pair of late-night tweets, President Donald Trump changed course on negotiating coronavirus relief that he had earlier announced he was calling off until after the election.
“The House & Senate should IMMEDIATELY Approve 25 Billion Dollars for Airline Payroll Support, & 135 Billion Dollars for Paycheck Protection Program for Small Business. Both of these will be fully paid for with unused funds from the Cares Act. Have this money. I will sign now!” he posted shortly before 10 p.m.

It’s an old trick, Randall. Used by many. Contradict yourself, always include a disclaimer that you may be wrong and state the opposite, and afterwards you (and your PR flacks) can always point to the most supportive statement.
I’m not surprised that you two aren’t sophisticated enough to recognize Trump’s master stroke on this. He has said he won’t negotiate any more with Crazy Nancy and then threw the ball into her court by letting her know if she has individual items to punch out, he’d sign them.
And what does she do? She starts scheming on the 25th Amendment… She got wrecked.
