Trump has earned this conservative’s vote

My column for the Washington County Daily News is online and in print. Pick up a copy!

In 2016, disillusioned with the Republican Party, distrustful of Donald Trump’s agenda, and fearful of the rise of populism in America, I cast my vote for a thirdparty candidate. I strive to not repeat mistakes. This year, I will cast my vote without reservation for President Trump. He has earned this conservative’s vote by advancing and defending issues about which I have deeply cared for my entire adult life.

In politics, as in life, it is more imperative to judge people on what they do rather than on what they say. In most cases, this advice is a lesson to watch for oily people who say what you want to hear while doing the opposite. In the case of Trump, you have to sometimes ignore his ramblings and bombast to see that he has a record of conservative accomplishments strong enough to rival any president.

[…]

I have only begun to scratch the surface of Trump’s conservative record. Sure, Trump still spends too much, supports tariffs, and supported weakening our criminal justice system, but for conservatives who purport to care about protecting unborn lives, the 2nd Amendment, free speech, lower taxes, less regulation, an America-centric foreign policy, and a love of country, President Trump has made more tangible movement in advancing and protecting those principles than any other president in my lifetime. He is not the perfect conservative messenger, but he sure is an effective conservative doer.

As I pray for the speedy recovery of our president and those close to him, I also look forward to casting my vote for his re-election.

So, in these perilous times, it’s important to put aside some values we’ve held our entire lives, like “a man’s word is his honor”.  Who cares if Trump only pretends to be a Christian, only pretends to tell the truth, only pretends to be a successful business man?

  2. Kevin Scheunemann says:

I got the huuuuuge Trump sign at the shop.

Compare that to 2016 when I had to convince myself the AM of election to keep Hillaey from winning.

Trump has won me over with policy action, despite the mountains of disgusting liberal fake news against him.

Biden is a horrible racist after his black women keep his shelves stocked comment. Liberals silently cheer Biden’s open racism!

  3. jjf says:

I got the huuuuuge Trump sign at the shop.

Don’t go violating any sign ordinances.

  4. Kevin Scheunemann says:

    jjf,

There you liberals go…demanding regulation be inflicted on political speech.

    Why am I not surprised.

Kewaskum has enlightened, pro-free speech leadership.   I hear the Village President is not an authoritarian liberal stooge.

  5. Jason says:

    >demanding regulation be inflicted on political speech.

Dumb Foust wouldn’t have said that to anyone saying they have a huuuuge Harris – Biden sign.  Even career politicians are not as hypocritical as he.

  6. Mar says:

jjf, why are you so obsessed with President Trump’s lying but don’t give a rat’s ass about Le Rou’s blatant lying?
    Or Joe Budens’s lying?
    Hypocrite much?

  7. jjf says:

Mar, do these pants make my ass look good?

  8. Mar says:

No, because you are just 1 big ass. Nothing will help that.

  9. jjf says:

So this too-big Biden sign should be allowed?  Tell the WisGOP on the Oneida county board.

  10. Mar says:

Why, jjf is changing the topic again.
    What a hypocrite.

  11. jjf says:

Sorry, Mar, it was Dr. DQ who started talking about the size of his sign “at the shop.”

  12. Pat says:

I guess the end justifies the means.
Selling your soul to get what you want.

The thing is, Trump doesn’t deserve to be in the office. We can last four years without him. The question is, can we survive four more years with him?

  13. Mar says:

“The question is, can we survive four more years with him?”
You already survived 4 years with him, what’s another 4 years?
Could the country survive with Kamala Harris as president? The most liberal in the Senate.

  14. Pat says:

“Could the country survive with Kamala Harris as president?“

    Yes

  15. Kevin Scheunemann says:

    Jjf,

Knock youself out with all the elder abuse signs you want.

  16. Le Roi du Nord says:

Kudos to the craft brewers in Oneida County!!

I haven’t heard of any issues around here with sighs (R or D) being in violation of the sign ordinance, but lost of problems with theft of signs from private property.  For you thieves in my neighborhood:  Yes, that tar will come off, eventually.  And yes, that game camera works, directly to my cell phone.

  17. MHMaley says:

Taxes, the debate and Covid all in one week and Biden’s
lead grows larger with even Ohio and Texas in play
with an incumbent who’s out of money .

All the Conservatives votes in the country won’t save
Trump from a humiliating electoral college and popular
    vote blowout .

  18. jjf says:

Gee, I provide a fine example of WisGOP blowhards restricting the size of signs, and no one makes a peep of denouncement.

  19. Pat says:

    Awful. Just awful.

  20. Jason says:

    >Gee, I provide a fine example of WisGOP blowhards restricting the size of signs, and no one makes a peep of denouncement.

Dumb Foust wouldn’t have said that to anyone saying they have a huuuuge Harris – Biden sign. Even career politicians are not as hypocritical as he.

  21. Mar says:

Pat, are you talking about Le Roi with your link?
    He seems well qualified.

  22. jjf says:

Jason, are you taking the side of the Oneida Republicans who didn’t know the law?

  23. Mar says:

I don’t know if you read the report Pat. They say White supremacists groups are dangerous.
Except they never named a specific group.
    I wonder why?

  24. Pat says:

    They mentioned the Proud Boys.

  25. Pat says:

All this jibber jabber doesn’t matter anyway. Everyone knows Trump is going to win in a historic landslide. All indicators show say so.

  26. Mar says:

What indicators are you looking at Pat?

  27. Mar says:

You mean, The Proud Boys, whose leader is Afro-Cuban is white supremacist group?
    Really Pat.
What other fantasies do you have?

  28. jjf says:

Mar, I guess you could look at what the Proud Boys say and do.

  29. Randall Flagg says:

Except they never named a specific group.

    They mentioned the Proud Boys.

So are you telling me Mar once again posted without reading.  BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  30. jjf says:

Pat, it’s like they’ve already forgotten about Herman Cain and the timeline of his death from the virus.

  31. Tuerqas says:

All this jibber jabber doesn’t matter anyway. Everyone knows Trump is going to win in a historic landslide. All indicators show say so.

Yup, that is what I have seen as well.

  32. Mar says:

    Tuerqas, which indicators?

  33. jjf says:

Mar, no indicators are necessary, remember?  You can just say it’s so, and it’s so.

  34. Pat says:

Thankfully the FBI thwarted the kidnapping of the Michigan Governor by right wing thugs.

  35. Tuerqas says:

My first indication is personal.  There are a few groups of surprisingly diverse people at several outings I attend every year.  The feeling I get from Dems this year has been fear weariness.  That has always led to lower than average Dem voting.

The second is a bit of poll watching.  I have noticed that due to the heavier liberal biasing of media towards Dems, polls are generally off 7-11% when it comes to actual results.  This race is closer than the Clinton-Trump race was.

The last is that when I have talked to the College age people I know, there is less fear and outrage, and it is flowing more towards apathy than the last couple of contested elections, maybe caused mostly Covid.  Dems need to feed off each other to vote (especially the young) and Republicans vote pure self-interest so they tend to come out pretty consistently.  Down College votes is generally lethal for Dems.

More than that, there is a general feeling that Biden has been and is losing it more and more before the election.  Oddly enough, I think getting the even older Bernie Sanders as vice president gets them elected.  Kamala Harris seems only to add breasts.

  36. Le Roi du Nord says:

And I hope they catch the perp on this one as well:

  37. Jason says:

Odd Leroy, I don’t remember you saying the same about the psycho who mailed some ricin to President Trump…

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/19/politics/package-poison-ricin-addressed-to-trump-intercepted/index.html

Got a link to your statement? If you don’t then you’re a lying hypocrite… because that’s attempted murder and terrorism, not simply a threatening letter.  I hope both are prosecuted fully.

  38. Le Roi du Nord says:

Not sure what you are after here j, but I hope they catch those peeps as well.

And what lie are you talking about? Or are you imitating the accuser in chief, herr mar?

  39. Le Roi du Nord says:

    Perps

  40. Tuerqas says:

I am all for catching perping toms!
