WIAA Girls’ Basketball Tournament to Go On As Planned

Good. I’m glad to see that at least not everyone is overreacting.

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) — WIAA officials are keeping a close eye on the coronavirus as they get ready for the Girl’s State Basketball Tournament this weekend at the Resch Center.

About 30,000-40,000 people are expected to make their way into the tournament at some point during the three-day event.

Todd Clark, WIAA director of communications, said they are monitoring the situation, but as of right now, they don’t plan on changing anything about the tournament. Instead, they are going to remind people about the precautions they can take to stay healthy. PMI Entertainment told Action 2 News that the center has plenty of bathrooms that are well-stocked with soap.

‘We’re working on a PSA, a message within the facility on video boards as a friendly reminder to be courteous, as far as, doing the common things we talk about to help prevent the spread of contagious viruses,” said Clark.

Coronovirus is serious. We should take precautions and be vigilant about our hygiene and communal behavior. But we shouldn’t suspend daily life for months while it runs its course. Get out there and do what you need to do, folks, just don’t be stupid.

It’s too bad that the media is blowing this way out of proportion. Unless you are old and/or have serious medical conditions you really don’t have much to worry about.

  2. Kevin Scheunemann

Six weeks ago the disgusting liberal media said we were all going to die in WW3 when Trump killed Solemani.

In six weeks disgusting liberal media, will find some other end of world cult issue to obsess over.

No libs here will ever denounce the obscene liberal media.

  3. jjf

Mar, or if you’re a business that depends on employees showing up for work, or if you’re working in a hospital with a fixed number of beds and ventilators and you don’t enjoy prioritizing beds based on the number of years of life you might save.

Or if you’re old in a state full of old people who like to congregate in restaurants and the club house, maybe the dry AZ air will save you. Other than that, you’ll be OK.

Or if you have an empathy gland that’s been atrophied by repeated exposure to FOX News, you have even less to worry about.

Wait, gotta go, it’s this hour’s Two Minutes Hate!

    Meanwhile, after the WIAA decision…

    – The NBA has suspended its season until further notice after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19.

    – The NCAA will be playing its basketball tournaments in virtually-empty stadiums.

    – The Big Ten has thrown spectators out of all its winter/spring sports contests, including the men’s basketball tournament.

    – President Trump will ban most travelers from the European Union and the Baltics for 30 days effective the end of the day tomorrow.

    – The campaigns of Trump, Sanders, and Biden have all cancelled various political rallies, including Trump’s campaign cancelling a Milwaukee rally later this month.

We’ll see what Gov. Evers will say later this morning.

NBA PRAISES COMMUNIST CHINA…. NBA has long been stupid and absent sound judgement.

  6. Le Roi du Nord

“Six weeks ago the disgusting liberal media said we were all going to die in WW3 when Trump killed Solemani.”

Could you provide the proof for that claim? Or just another blatant case of hyperbole?

  7. jjf

Wow, Kevin, you get pretty worked up by headlines and “analysis.” Here’s a tip. If a headline asks a question, the answer is almost always “no.”

Whatever you do, don’t watch FOX News. It’s all inflamed, all outrage, all the time. Nancy’s coming to steal your guns! And your Dilly Bars!

  8. Kevin Scheunemann

And the most disgusting of all…the NY Times:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/03/world/middleeast/suleimani-dead.html

What happened to all this liberal panic? You pathetic libs moved on from this doomsday, end of world cult narrative because it was not playing well against Trump.

The mild flu will be same by mid April and you disgusting libs will find the next end of the world panic to focus on.

I am tired of the liberal media doomsday lies.

  9. Kevin Scheunemann

    Jjf:

Then you sill denounce liberal media doomsday panics here and now?

I don’t think you have the spine to do it.

  10. jjf

Again with the denouncing. How does this fulfill you? Clearly this pandemic isn’t over yet, so even if I was completely wrong, you still don’t have the evidence of that.

What’s the most recent over-wrought panic that you’ve detected on FOX?

  11. Kevin Scheunemann

    Jjf,

Will you denounce the “this means WW3” LIBERAL media doomsday promulgation over killing of Solemani?

I think you will be spineless and sympathize with terrorists.

  12. Le Roi du Nord

And the first paragraph of k’s first link goes:

“Our age is cursed by hyperbole, hysteria and exaggeration. Blame it on social media and the 24/7 news cycle, where one extreme comment follows another.”

Obviously k didn’t read past the headline……, and he makes their point in spades…

  13. jjf

But Le Roi… when you you denounce the awful, positively awful, comments made by Steven Smith on the “Trump Must Go” Facebook page on February 3, 2019, when he posted a meme pic that shows a noose in the background?

  14. Le Roi du Nord

Nah, I’m not a big FB follower. Missed it.

  15. Kevin Scheunemann

    jjf,Nord,

Do you guys denounce the WW3 liberal media hyperbole related to the Solemani killing? Or do you sympathize with the terrorists being killed?

You 2 never answer an honest moral question.

  16. jjf

Awful. Just awful. I knew you wouldn’t do it. How do you live with yourself and that head full of awful non-denunciations?

  17. Mark Hoefert

Seeing breaking news that spectator attendance will be limited to 88 tickets per team + those with media credentials.

    From the WIAA —

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, in accordance with policies and guidance from public health organizations and the World Health Organization for mass gatherings, will be limiting attendance at the remainder of all winter tournament events scheduled March 12-14 and March 19-21.

This includes the boys sectional semi-final and final games, the girls state basketball tournament, and the boys state basketball tournament.

The guidelines for mass gatherings calls for restriction of public events to 50-250 attendees, depending on the event and venue. This pandemic has created unprecedented circumstances that make these decisions and actions prudent and necessary.

“The WIAA has been keeping up with public health and medical updates and has recognized the changing environment over the past 24 hours,” Executive Director Dave Anderson said. “As good and responsible citizens, we are adhering to policies consistent to preventing the spread of COVID-19.”

The policy limits attendance at the State Tournament to 88 tickets per team, two supervisors and a limit of 22 team personnel. In addition, the boys and girls 3-Point Challenge competitions scheduled for Saturday will be held with participants and one chaperone allowed

Contest officials, timer, scorekeeper, announcer, team host, WIAA staff, WIAA athletic trainers and Board of Control members deemed essential to the administration of the tournament are permitted.

Cheerleaders, pep bands, school photographers, videographers and on-site sponsors will be prohibited.

The live television broadcast of the State Tournament will be available; however, limited radio stations will be given clearance to broadcast. Press accommodations will be restricted to either a small pool that would provide copy to the state or to one reporter per school team.

Tickets for the WIAA Girls and Boys State Basketball Tournaments, except the party of 88 immediate family members, will be refunded in full. Please allow staff time to make these refunds and contact the WIAA office only if you do not see a refund to your account within two weeks of the tournament.

    k:

If you had read past the headlines you would realize you screwed up here. Take a deep breath, and say slowly, “I was wrong” 100 times. Otherwise you are just digging a deeper hole.

  20. Jason

    >If you had read past the headlines you would realize you screwed up here. Take a deep breath, and say slowly, “I was wrong” 100 times. Otherwise you are just digging a deeper hole.

    So sayeth the expert!

  21. Le Roi du Nord

    j:

You too lazy to read past the headlines as well?

  22. Kevin Scheunemann

    Nord, jjf,

Neither of you denounced last doomsday liberal media hype over Solemani.

    Cowards.

Neither of you could take a moral stand in a room full of con men with old ladies in nursing home.

    Awful. Just awful.

  23. jjf

Don’t fret, Kevin, the market is speaking about its trust in Trump. How’s your 401-K today?

  24. Kevin Scheunemann

    jjf,

    Coward.

You can’t take a simple moral stand, can you?

  25. jjf

Coward. You can’t take a simple moral stand, can you?

Let me run that through Google Translate.

Why can’t you jump monkey, jump?

  26. Kevin Scheunemann

    Jjf,

You like corrupt liberal media panics, then?

    Awful. Just awful.

  27. jjf

Yeah, Kevin. That’s what I said.

I’ll bet a Dilly Bar that you’ll know someone who dies from it by August.

  28. Kevin Scheunemann

    Jjf,

    Bet is on!

  29. Le Roi du Nord

    k:

I didn’t denounce it because there wasn’t much to denounce. And you still haven’t read the articles you posted. Too lazy? Or would actually understanding what they say be contrary to your mindset? Or both?

  30. Jason

    >You too lazy to read past the headlines as well?

Awww, I was too witty for you. That whoosh sound you hear all the time must be annoying.

  31. Kevin Scheunemann

    Nord,

    Excuse, excuses for moral cowardice

  32. Le Roi du Nord

    k:

At least I have the courage to read the articles you provided. You are just too lazy.

  33. Kevin Scheunemann

    Nord,

You just want to divert in order to avoid answering the simple moral question.

You would not denounce con men ripping off a roomful of old ladies in your day to day moral cowardice.

  34. jjf

How about a con man ripping off a bunch of people who thought they were attending his university?

  35. Le Roi du Nord

And now the remainder of the girls tournament is cancelled. A shame that is couldn’t be completed, but a smart move in the long run.

  36. Kevin Scheunemann

    Nord,

    Stupid overreaction.

  37. Le Roi du Nord

How so, Dr. k?? May I ask where you earned your medical degree? trump u.?

  38. Mar

This is just a made up crisis with people panicking about nothing.
People buying out toilet paper and water and for what?
Those with health problems need to watch themselves, just as they have to do with the flu, the common cold etc.
We don’t cancel sporting events because of this.
More people were killed in car accidents yesterday than were killed by this virus.

  39. Mar

jjf, liberals have been conning people with their stupid ideas for decades.

  40. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

Made up you say? Tell that to the folks already deceased, and to those yet to be ill. Jam your head even farther in the sand.

  41. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

Made up you say? Tell that to the folks already deceased, and to those yet to be ill. Jam your head even On a farther in the sand.

  42. Mar

I bet Le Rou, your one of the fools who went out and bought a years worth a toilet paper and water.
Yes, it is made up. We get new diseases each year. We have more people killed by the common cold and influenza.
Pat got it right in another post, this is just herd mentality taking place.
As far those who have died, yes, it’s sad for the family but the majority died in 1 place, a nursing home where the life expectancy in these places is about a year or two because these people were already sick.

  43. Mar

Gee, some Democrats are now banning church services of over 250 people.
    Why am I not surprised.

  44. Le Roi du Nord

No mar, I didn’t panic buy any thing. You lost the bet, you going to pay up, or just keep flapping your yap.

And you exhibit some strange sympathy for the victims, yet support the folks that wasted valuable time denying the seriousness of the virus.

  45. Mar

Le ROI, how is Corona serious compared to other diseases? How is it serious compared to all the murders in the inner cities? How is it serious compared to childhood cancer that has killed more kids than kids who have been infected?
And, yeah. Come out to Arizona and I’ll treat you to a dinner.

  46. Merlin

Set the keyboards aside and go play in the sun. The world will still need to be fixed tomorrow, too.

  47. jjf

Mar, are you saying you’ve researched the answers to your questions and found the numbers wanting, or that you haven’t?

What’s the point of comparing death rates to other existing diseases? This is a new virus, it spreads more quickly than others, and it has a high death rate. It adds to the total. It’s not some zero-sum, is it?

LDS cancelled services. Does that cancel out your Dems?

  48. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

It seems that the large majority of medical professionals disagree with you. Perhaps you and k got your MD’s at trump u at the same time.

  49. Mar

Le ROI, and there are many doctors and other health care professionals who disagree with you and the sky is falling crowd, including white I have talked to.
jjf, a death rate to whom besides the elderly? What is the death rate of someone under 50 with no serious health conditions.
Here’s a hint: it’s the same number as Le Roi’s brain cells.

  50. Le Roi du Nord

Sure mar, just like there are “scientists” that deny GW/CC. Don’t put your life in their hands.

  51. Le Roi du Nord

trump et al are on the radio right now. They disagree with you as well.

  52. Mark Hoefert

As of the end of February, these were the statistics for China:

    The death rates

10-19; 20-29; 30-39 years of age is .2% – double the .1% for seasonal flu.

    .4 for 40-49 – 4 times the .1 for seasonal flu.

    1.3 for 50-59

    3.6 for 60-69

    8 for 70-79

    14.8% for 80+ age group.

So, if apples to oranges comparison are to be made, one could say that the deaths of very young people could double the numbers of seasonal flu deaths.

And I say a very qualified “could”. No one knows, but the prepper mentality says anticipate and prepare for worst case scenario.

I just watched the President – very encouraging all that is being done at this time to ramp up an effective response.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/who-confirms-coronavirus-global-death-rate-rises-fatalities-numbers-2020-3

  53. jjf

Mar, so if it’s only 0.2% for teens, that’s only one kid per high school, right? Who cares, right? And if they carry it back home to mom and dad and grandma, that’s their own damn fault! They’ve got to take some personal responsibility, right?

  54. dad29

and it has a high death rate

Sorry, Jiffster, you do not KNOW that, because the denominator has not been defined yet.

How many cases exist in RedChina? You don’t know; the Communists lie, just like the Democrats and the MSM here. How many cases exist in the US? You don’t know, because testing has only just begun.

  55. Mar

jjf, again, why dont we get so squeamish with other diseases?
Perhaps you dont care about these diseases I guess. You just are part of the herd mentality.

  56. Mar

And jjf, you are equating the Chinese health care system to ours and you also equating the Chinese readiness to the disease, which of course started there and had to start from scratch to us, who are getting prepared and expecting the disease.
