UK Government Asks Queen to Suspend Parliment

Brexit gonna Brexit.

The government has asked the Queen to suspend Parliament just days after MPs return to work in September – and only a few weeks before the Brexit deadline.

Boris Johnson said a Queen’s Speech would take place after the suspension, on 14 October, to outline his “very exciting agenda”.

But it means the time MPs have to pass laws to stop a no-deal Brexit on 31 October would be cut.

House of Commons Speaker John Bercow said it was a “constitutional outrage”.

The speaker, who does not traditionally comment on political announcements, continued: “However it is dressed up, it is blindingly obvious that the purpose of [suspending Parliament] now would be to stop [MPs] debating Brexit and performing its duty in shaping a course for the country.”

It would be “an offence against the democratic process and the rights of Parliamentarians as the people’s elected representatives”, he added.

  1. Kevin Scheunemann

Parliment has long been an offense against good government in their decades of socialist policies.

  2. Merlin

Let me fix that for you Speaker…  At some point the democratic process of endlessly unproductive debate by the people’s elected representatives becomes blindingly obvious stonewalling.

Another case of your authoritarian mindset.  You denounce an elected government in a country, one of our best allies (at least until 45 got into office), that you don’t live in.

  4. Kevin Scheunemann

I commented parliament has had decades of bad decisions. I did not say I agreed with suspending parliament. Their dysfunction is what makes the idea appealing

  5. MjM

God Save The Queen: “The Queen approved an order from the prime minister for parliament to be “prorogued” from the second week in September until 14 October….”

  6. Jason

    >Parliment has long been an offense against good government in their decades of socialist policies.

Well said Kevin…  keep em coming.

  7. Le Roi du Nord

But they were decisions made by the duly elected parliament.  If you don’t like the decisions you should move there and become a citizen and vote.

  8. Kevin Scheunemann

Sure, encourage me to live in a socialist hell.

    No thanks.

It just kills you inside that I make pointed, truthful commentary about liberalism in action, that you cannot rebut on the merits, doesn’t it?

    Is so, awesome.

  9. Le Roi du Nord

If you think you are so much smarter and know so much more than the Brits, why don’t you more there and improve their lot rather than just sit here and snipe at them from your keyboard?  Put your money where your mouth is….

  10. Kevin Scheunemann

It is much more important to save this nation from the vile clutches of leftist socialism.

If U.S. falls to leftists, the last true hope for freedom on this planet is lost.

Britain has long been a dead socialist corpse collasping under the weight of its poor national health care system.   I am of opinion, only revolution will save Britian and Brexit is a good start.

  11. Le Roi du Nord

So you want to start a revolution in the UK ?  I’ll let MI5 and MI6 know of your plans.  Thanks for the tip.

  12. Le Roi du Nord

WHO ranks the UK heathcare as 18th, US at 37.

Darn, those facts seem to trip you up again.

  13. Kevin Scheunemann

There you go again.  I was just stating a fact on how I perceive effective reform in UK.

I said nothing about whether anyone in UK should take that approach.  And if they did, I would urge a non-violent approach.   It is unfortunate that liberals/socialists in any authority, throughout history, are very violent, and have a high body count in their wake.

  14. Kevin Scheunemann

Who is doing the ranking?  Zombie Fidel Castro? Xi? the communist UN?

  15. Le Roi du Nord

Earlier you said it was an opinion, now you claim it is a fact.  Which is it?  Or do you still mix them up?

What part about WHO don’t you understand?

  16. Kevin Scheunemann

How I perceive something is a fact.

Since my opinion was laid out there.   It is a fact the opinion exists and I was refering to it.

WHO is about as honest as the NY TIMES when it comes to valuing freedom and liberty.   It is liberal ideological bunk.

  17. Le Roi du Nord

No, how you perceive something is just that, how you perceive it.  Facts are still facts, regardless of how you alleged “conservatives” adulterate the word.

So you are claiming that you know more about the status of world health care than WHO?  (Remember you didn’t know who they were at first.)  How arrogant of you, and uninformed.

  18. Jason

    >I’ll let MI5 and MI6 know of your plans

Let us all know how that goes… dummy. Hahahah
