Warren Proposes to Fleece Taxpayers to Pay off College Debt

Ah yes, the “I’ll give you free stuff” campaign strategy. Tried and true. Of course, if you don’t have college debt and are going to pay higher taxes to pay of other people’s debt, this doesn’t sound so hot.

The Massachusetts senator says the proposal unveiled Monday would eliminate almost all student loan debt for 42 million Americans, canceling $50,000 in debt for each person with household income under $100,000. According to Warren’s description of the plan in a piece to be posted on Medium, the debt cancellation proposal would create a one-time cost to the federal government of $640 billion.

Many in the growing field of Democratic candidates have proposed reforming the nation’s student loan programs, including dramatic restructuring of existing refinancing structures, but Warren appears to be the first to propose flat-out debt cancellation. Warren and others in the field, including Sens. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand and Kamala Harris, are backing the Debt-Free College Act , a bill that would cover all costs for students attending a public college without necessitating loans.

Among Warren’s other proposals is elimination of tuition and fees for two- and four-year public college degree programs, as well as a $100 billion investment in Pell Grants, a federal aid program that requires no payback.

Those of us that worked hard and paid our own way through college, without loans…..

    1. Free college will open the door to 4 years + of party time with no incentive to learn anything. 2. Colleges will be free to raise tuition above and beyond realistic amounts. 3. With many college degrees that are already useless in public life, even more kids will be wasting four years of their lives with nothing to show for it.

    Another socialist agenda.

Why would Warren not go the tried-and-true route of promising freebies to Democrat voters? It works time and again. She knows full well that Democrat voters would hold her blameless when her promises evaporate, but Bernie already has the mindless lemming vote pretty much locked up. Warren is too late to the giveaway game.

Consider how well Bernie Sanders has done running this same con. Capitalist Bernie has made himself rather wealthy; primarily by selling socialism to unquestioning idiots. The affectations of wild hair and threadbare white shirts are a bit of minor genius. I don’t think Warren can seriously dent Bernie’s lemming market share.

Debt cancellation?  I bet the lenders like this idea.

    And @ScottWalker chimed in:

Since 1978, college tuitionwent up about 4️⃣ times the rate of inflation.  Instead of making higher education free, why don’t we just force colleges and universities to keep tuition down ↘️ in the first place?!?

Mr. State’s Rights!  And does he understand what inflation is?  We’ll “just force” them?
