Superior Mayor Refuses to Resign

I agree that he shouldn’t feel compelled to resign. If the voters want him out, that is their prerogative.

The mayor of Superior said Tuesday he won’t accede to calls from City Council members for him to resign or back down from comments he posted on Facebook that President Barack Obama is a Muslim who has “destroyed the fabric of democracy.”

Mayor Bruce Hagen framed the issue as a matter of free speech. He said he posted the remark on a photo of first lady Michelle Obama — “Unbelievable! She and her Muslim partner have destroyed the fabric of democracy that was so very hard fought for” — from his personal account, using his home computer, on his own time.

“Am I gonna resign? Absolutely not,” Hagen said. “If the people of this community feel otherwise, they will vote me out of office.”

Ald. Graham Garfield called Hagen’s post “entirely inappropriate,” offensive to Wisconsin Muslims, and untrue about Obama’s religion.

I also agree that his comment is offensive to Muslims. They don’t want Obama to continue to shred our Constitution either.

In all seriousness, the Mayor is wrong about Obama’s religion and it’s easily proved. But he’s right about Obama destroying the fabric of democracy. But irrespective of his correctness, it’s a free country and he can say what he wants. If the voters don’t want to reelect him because of it, then so be it. I’m sick and tired, though, of Righties being called upon to resign for saying dumb stuff when Lefties can say the most outrageous things with nary a whimper of protest.

“Ald. Graham Garfield called Hagen’s post “entirely inappropriate,” offensive to Wisconsin Muslims, and untrue about Obama’s religion.”

What is scary is, that quote makes it sound like the part about Obama destroying the fabric of democracy is untrue!

I’m offended by this Alderman’s incredible poor judgment on that.

    Garfield should resign.

“Destroying the fabric of democracy.” Such drama! But what does it mean?

Can we place this in context of actions taken by other Presidents (of any party) in the last fifty years?

    Kevin:

I agree with John , what do you mean, and give examples. Be truthful.

  4. Kevin Scheunemann

Excellent past example. Jimmy Carter. Tolerated Americans to be held hostage by Iran for over a year.

That us what happens when you ignore and coddle evil vs. dealing with it.

ISIS rose because Obama surrendered Iraq and thought going to the world on his apologize/hate America first tour that evil is good and good is evil (US) that would make it all better.

He sent a signal we are now weak and unable to lead.

    kevin:

Your factually challenged comments don’t prove any point. Carter tried to get the hostages out and failed. But he did not “tolerate” the situation. Reagan sandbagged any negotiations with a backstage deal. You need a history class.

    Baldy,

That is the most spin I’ve ever seen to explain the disaster of Carter administration.

“Try” is not results. Had he not coddled and underestimated, just like Obama, Islamic terrorists to begin with, the hostage situation would not have happened.

I can see the liberal blindness runs deep.

    Kevin:

Just like cheney/bush tried to succeed in Iraq and Afganistan, eh. And Powell warned them about underestimating the foe and they ignored him. Your selective memory and poor grasp of history is showing again.

  8. Kevin Scheunemann

    Baldy,

After your terrible, almost funny, grasp of Carter administration policy, you are hardly qualified to lecture anyone about poor grasp of history.

    Fake Baldy,

    Merry Christmas.

Might want to possibly consider a relationship with Jesus this Christmas.

No one needs to resign .

Public officials just need to be reminded that
No one cares about what theY think of the President or his wife .

    Just do your job !

    Kevin:

Having lived through the Carter era first hand as an adult, I feel much better prepared to comment on it than someone just out of diapers. And really, there was nothing humorous about the Iran hostage situation. Strange that you would feel that way.

    And have a Merry Christmas.

Sorry. You can probably get an Rx for that thin skin.

  14. Dan

Old Baldy, I also lived through the Carter years as an adult and guess what, Carter was a joke then as he is now. He was a horrible president and that is why he was voted out of office with Reagan winning in a landslide.
Iran hostages was 1 reason, along with a horrible economy with high inflation and high interest rates.

  15. NewWisGov

If you worry about the fabric of democracy, you must be really upset about Wisconsin Republicans protecting secret billionaire front groups to avoid disclosure laws. #gopfail

  16. old baldy

    Dan:

And what was the cause of the high inflation and interest rates? Years of Viet Nam spending and general mistrust of government after Nixon. Carter inherited a nightmare and had to live with it. The hostage situation certainly was bad, but the pre-election interference by Reagan was beneath contempt.

What makes Carter any more horrible than cheney/bush?

  17. Dan

Geez baldy, wearing your tin hat lately?
If the economy was so bad because of Viet Nam, a war fought by Democrats and ended by Nixon, how come the economy turned around so fast for Reagan?
Just ponder that for a moment.

  18. old baldy

    Dan:

Using your analogy, are you willing to give Obama credit for turning around the disaster that cheney/bush created?

And the economy really didn’t get going until Reagan was just about finished, and then collapsed under Bush. And really rocketed under Clinton. So make sure you are consistent with giving credit, assigning blame.

    Ponder that for a moment.

    fake mark:

Maybe yours does, but if you had pursued that GED your personal economy would be better. Maybe you will turn yourself around in the New Year. Have a good one.
