Trump Slams POWs

Yeah, I think we can be done with Trump now.

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump on Saturday questioned whether Sen. John McCain — who spent over five years as a prisoner during the Vietnam War — is a war hero.

“He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK? I hate to tell you,” Trump said at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. “I believe perhaps he is a war hero.”

The comments met with a mix of gasps, boos, laughter and some applause from an audience that was present during a question-and-answer session with the real estate mogul.

That is a despicable comment made by a terrible person.

    Glibness over good sense
    Smugness over empathy for unbelievable
    Torture
I agree with almost nothing McCain stands for today , but he and his fellow POW’s gave everything they had for our country and are heroes all!

Trump got. 4 student deferments and 1 medical deferments

That means he’s tied with Dick Cheney .

Perhaps Trump went over the line, but McCain is also a pretty bad guy.
McCain wants us to go into to war everywhere, he has no experience or clue about the economy, he hates conservatives and he is not that bright of a fellow.
And don’t forget, McCain invited this fight as he labeled both Trump and conservatives as being POS.
so, I have no sympathy for McCain.

  4. Dan

I might add, McCain has a true conservative running against him in the GOP primary for Senate, so there is a decent chance he may be gone in the next election.

    Dan,
McCain could have taken the early release he was offered because his father was an admiral

    He didn’t
Trump will apologize in the next 24 hours to
McCain personally and POW’s in general

If he still is leading the polls by Friday I’ll be stunned

Trump made a dumb, dumb comment. He should have apologized and not doubled down.

That said, I wonder whether the ones rushing to push Trump over the side are truly worried about that Trump’s fitness for office or are simply not wanting to deal with some of the issues he’s brought up.

We do have a massive immigration problem with no border security.

And we are now 4-5 days past that shooting in Tennessee and no new edicts have been issued by Obama allowing armed service members at least carry sidearms to defend themselves whether on base or in a recruiting office.

  7. Dan

    So what, Mark.
He didn’t take an early release as a POW because there is a stronger code among POWs- you don’t get released for propaganda purposes.
He went to the Naval academy and finished almost last in his class.
And I am pretty sure he used connections to get into the Academy.
He crashed 2 planes and put another into electrical wires.
He was brave after he was captured, no doubt about that.
He has never worked in the private sector.
As a congresscritter, he has been more liberal and at times, just downright stupid.
He has decided that conservatives are crazy and depends on democrats to get elected.
He is a complete moron, especially later on in life.

    Steve
Maybe arming the soldiers and recruiters is s solid idea . I don’t know

Here is my concern about guns in general

we seem to be heading towards a time when everyone in the country is armed and it’s my luck that when some yahoo with a permit
decides to take on another yahoo or 3 with a permit , me or my family will be the victim because we refused to strap up .

    F that!

I pay a ton of taxes to be protected by the armed services and the police but that just isn’t enough in the 2nd amendment nirvana
    We are headed towards .

Guns or more guns seem to be the answer to all of our problems ( or at least most of them )

If folks think we are winning when we only act out of fear , we aren’t

    Dan
If Trump doubling down gives him a lift , I have grave concerns about the ” principled
Conservatives ” who think what he said about a 20 something kid in a torture chamber makes sense

The beauty of Donald Trump is that, after ten years of Tea Party shenanigans, he’s really distilled the qualities that appeal to the rump of that movement most strongly. One need only peruse Free Republic or the comments on sites like Breitbart, Townhall, RedState, etc. to see the veracity of that statement.

And it’s for that reason that Trump’s candidacy isn’t going anywhere. If anything, that core support combined with his own wallet positions him well to be the last candidate standing in the Jeb Bush vs. Everyone Else race that this primary is destined to become.

It won’t matter in the end. When one considers the primary process, the quiet, mind-their-own-business conservatives that make up a plurality of the primary voters almost always get their way. And time and again, they’ve shown that they’d prefer to side with the liberal/moderate part of the party rather than get into bed with the evangelical conservatives (who will support Huckabee and Santorum) or the secular, Tea Party conservatives (who will align with Trump or Ted Cruz, who we should note is reluctant to criticize Trump because he wants those voters).

The bigger concern for the party should be the damage Trump causes to the average person’s perception of the typical GOP voter. I’m sure that’s what costing Reince Priebus a fair amount of sleep these days.

    Mark,
Your rant about guns is pretty silly.
First, cops with guns have shot more innocent people than some guy with a concealed permit.
And people with concealed permits have saved themselves and others many, many times.
I am not a gun nut, I don’t own a gun nor have I shot a gun for 36 years, and that was when I was in basic training in the Air Force, but I also realize that if a person sees a guy with a gun in his holster, chances are a mugger or armed robber won’t be taking him on or anyone else around him or her.
At first, I thought, when the shootings occurred in Chattanooga, I didn’t think guns would have helped the Marines. But then I heard one of the victims who died either called or texted his girl friend about an active shooter. If he had time to call or text, he certainly had time to protect himself and possible take out the shooter.

As I said , I’m open to the discussion about
Arming the troops on bases and recruiting stations
The military pushed that through under Bush 41 and extended the idea under Clinton

My fear of a county moving even deeper into
The ” everybody needs a gun to be safe “ideology ” stands .

McCain took the high road as everyone knew he would today .
