I feel like I have to comment on this because it happened a few miles from me, but I don’t want to.
Former Saved by the Bell actor Dustin Diamond has appeared in court in Wisconsin, accused of stabbing a man during a bar brawl on Christmas Day.
The 37-year-old, who played Screech in the 1990s television show, was released from prison after posting $10,000 (£6,400) bail.
He is charged with possession of a switchblade, reckless endangerment and carrying a concealed weapon.
The actor said he was defending his 27-year-old fiancee Amanda Schutz.
This is really a pretty sad, if all too common, story. Diamond was a teen actor whose acting career stagnated after one big gig. He lives in Wisconsin and has been desperately trying to find a way to make a living. At one point he was offering to sell porn videos of himself or something, but I’m not googling “Screech porn” to verify my memory. All told, he seems like an ex C-list actor who is kind of a low-life trying to figure out what to do with his life. It is somewhat indicative of our modern media in that the story of his bar fight made international headlines, but it did.
