Lockdowns Drive Spike in Opioid Overdoses

When all of the deaths and ruined lives are tallied, I remain certain that the impact of our reaction to COVID will have been much worse than the disease itself.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says there is a seasonality when it comes to opioid overdoses. However, the department did see a growing trend overall across the state in recent years.

According to the Wisconsin Ambulance Runs Data System, in 2018 statewide, there were 1,268 opioid overdose ambulance runs in the first quarter of the year. In the first quarter of 2019, that number was 1,208. In 2020, that number jumped to 1,869, and increased further in the first quarter of 2021 to 1,963.

When looking at the statewide average number of opioid overdose ambulance runs per month by quarter, the second and third quarters of 2020, and the first quarter of 2021, had the first, second, and third highest numbers in the past three years, respectively. Those quarters correspond with the onset of COVID-19 restrictions and life during the pandemic.

According to Le Roi, it’s their own damn fault for overdosing.

  2. Le Roi du Nord

For a change, you are correct. Nobody forces anyone to overdose. It is a personal choice to use drugs.

  3. Mar

There are accidental overdoses and many of clinics and hospitals that help drug addicts were shut down during the early part of the pandemic. People list their support network.
Your lack of compassion strikes me as a bit odd.

And I might add, the liberal policies of large urban liberal cities encourage drug use. They defund the cops, some cities legalized many drugs and when arrested, the DA drops the charges or they are released without bail so they can go get high again before the cop finishes the arrest report.

  5. Le Roi du Nord

Blah, blah, blah, mar. You are just making excuses for poor personal choices. What happened to the alleged “personal responsibility “ you conservatives harp about all the time?

  6. Mar

And another irrelevant post by Le Roi.
And what about the tyrannical lockdowns you liberals love, especially you. That had no effect?

  7. Le Roi du Nord

The extent to which you are defending drug abusers seems suspicious. What’s up with that?

  8. Mar

There is a difference between hard core drug users, drug sellers, the occasional drug user and those that of on medication. But I guess you didn’t know that.
I guess you are not a true Senile Joe Biden follower.
And I guess you don’t believe people can turn their life around.

  9. Mar

But we probably agree one thing. People who supply the drugs should not be charged with murder of drug user who sold or gave them their drugs.

  10. Le Roi du Nord

Legal use of prescription medication isn’t illegal. Use of , supplying, and selling illegal drugs is illegal in most jurisdictions. Prosecute them.

Whatever we’re you trying to say in that last post?

  11. Mar

    Reading comprehension problems again?
You do realize that there are drug sellers are prosecuted for murder if their drugs kill a person who dies from their drugs by overdose.
And I think that is wrong.
I am you would agree with that, since you believe it is the fault of the drug user if they OD and not the drug sellers.

  12. Le Roi du Nord

Well , I don’t. Just like the getaway driver at a robbery that results in a murder is tried just as the shooter. They are all criminals, take them to trial.

What are you trying to say in that last paragraph?

  13. Mar

Well, I guess you really don’t blame the drug user.
    Caught in another lie.

  14. Le Roi du Nord

Where did I say that I didn’t blame the user?
