UW Regents Swing to Left

Elections have consequences. But as the legislature looks to unleash their tuition authority, this decision may have an immediate impact on thousands of Wisconsin students.

Attention this week turns to the UW Board of Regents, which finds itself at an interesting inflection point in the political power struggle over control of the University of Wisconsin System with the board holding its first contested election in nearly a decade.

Appointees of former Republican Gov. Scott Walker led the 18-member board for the past six years, but the political balance tipped this month when Democratic Gov. Tony Evers announced his newest regent picks. The board now includes nine Evers appointees, seven Walker appointees, the state superintendent and the Wisconsin Technical College System board president.

After the story has quote after quote of liberals bemoaning the influence of politics in the Regents, we get this little reminder:

There’s always been an element of political influence looming over the Regents by the very nature of their appointment and confirmation process.

In one of the most brazen examples, the Democratic-controlled Senate in the early 2000’s bottled up then-Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson’s regent nominations for so long that, after he left to become secretary of U.S. Health and Human Services, the picks remained held up for the entirety of his successor’s two-year tenure. When Doyle was elected, he withdrew the Republican appointees and then replaced them with his own.

Oh that can’t be true, Democrats are virtuous and don’t ‘play politics’ like those evil Republicans. Gerrymandering, appointees, vote suppression, holding up appointments, these are all examples of what a Republican would do. (Now if I repeat this three more times, every liberal who reads this will know that your post was a filthy lie Owen. The Power!)

“In one of the most brazen examples, the Democratic-controlled Senate in the early 2000’s bottled up then-Republican Gov. Seriously though, I am kind of surprised the Rep majority Legislature didn’t do the same thing. Letting the new appointments go through will cost the State a LOT of money. And I can’t really picture Evers getting re-elected.

  2. wisbadgerjim

Even better would be about 25% fewer employees. Then about 35% fewer buildings. Government is now a jobs program for government, not a public service organization. Time to downsize.

  3. Mar

I used to live in Wisconsin Rapids. In Wood and Portage counties, there are 5 public colleges/universities for a population of about 140,000 people plus a few from the surrounding counties.
There are a total of 22 high schools in those counties, most of which are very small.
How can you justify having that many public colleges in such a tiny geographic area?

  4. Le Roi du Nord

    5? Name them.

BTW : I attended what is now UW-SP, and we had students from all over the state, the US, and many foreign countries. In no way is enrollment limited to residents of Portage and Wood counties.

  5. Mar

UW-Stevens Point, their satilite college in Marshfield, and Mid,State College in Stevens Point, Marshfield and Stevens Point.
And I never said these colleges limited their enrollment to these areas. They couldn’t because the area cannot support 5 colleges.

  6. Mar

Damn, I went to same school as you? They must have raised standards since you went there.

  7. Mar

I will say this, though, UWSP was not as bad as UW-Madison, but hands down, the best college I went to was Silver Lake College in Manitowoc.

  8. Kevin Scheunemann

Radical leftist cancer has been eating UW for a long time. Just hurrying the rotting corpse to the coroner now.

  9. Le Roi du Nord

So, in reality, there are only 2, UW-SP and Mid-State.

Decode this: “How can you justify having that many public colleges in such a tiny geographic area”.

I don’t know if the standards have changed, but we didn’t have classes or get extra credit for exaggeration, making false claims about others, or name calling.

How did the nuns at Silver Lake appreciate your potty mouth?

  10. dad29

Even better would be about 25% fewer employees. Then about 35% fewer buildings.

Yup. But even if enrollment goes to TWO students/college, UW will fight tooth and claw to keep every campus open and every professor employed.

  11. dad29

……..and they’ll insist on MORE funding to give all those professors top pay in the country!

  12. Mar

There goes Le Roi lying and making an ass if himself.
Using Le Roi’s theory, UW Stevens Point is part of UW system and doesn’t count as a college
    What a moron.

  13. Mar

As far as the nuns at Silver Lake, they would say I am taking on an evil devil and that you should be smited.

  14. Le Roi du Nord

UW-Stevens Point IS part of the UW system, and has been since approximately 1973 (after I was there), hence the “UW” in the name.
    So what was the lie?

I’m sure the nuns at Silver Lake are profoundly disappointed that one of their students, assuming that you didn’t make that up as well, turned out like you, a name-calling, profoundly incoherent, and willfully ignorant fool.

  15. Mar

Oh, poor, poor Le Roi, I can explain it to you but I cannot make you understand it. And I already explained it to you
You just want so much to prove me wrong that you will twist, turn and make things up just to prove a mindless point.

  16. Mar

Oh, by the way Le Roi, when was the last time I called you a name.
And was the last time you spelled my name properly?

  17. Le Roi du Nord

If you can’t figure out what the UW means in UW-Stevens Point, you probably weren’t there. Unless it was under a picnic table at Buffy’s.

The last time you called me a name? 11:35 AM.

    What is your name?

  18. Mar

Le Roi, if you really went to UW Stevens Point, they need to refund your tuition and take back your degree but your reading comprehension pretty much I’d at a F- level.
So, I will explain it to in very simple terms. Please read slowly:
There are 5 colleges in Wood and Portage counties. Mid State has 3 campuses in Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point. They are separate campuses and have different classes. They are all colleges.
UW Stevens Point has their main campus in Stevens Point and a satilite campus in Marshfield. They are 2 colleges and technically there is professional college at UW- Stevens Point.
Your theory about there are just 2 colleges is preposterous. And using your theory, UW- Stevens Point should not be included as a college in Portage County because they belong to the UW System. If the Mid State 3 colleges only count as 1 college, then Stevens Point does not even count as a college.
So, I hope you now understand how stupid your comment was.

  19. Mar

Now, about calling you names, I called an ass, which you are. I described you as an object, not as a name.
I used ass as a adjective, not a noun or pronoun.
    Big difference.
Now, when I called you Pervert Boy, that was name calling, and if you noticed, I haven’t done that in a while.
So, again, UW Stevens Point needs to refund your tuition and get it’s diploma back.
And to spell my name, it is Mar, with a Capitol letter. You show so much disrespect when you refuse to capitalize people’s name, like President Trump, Kevin, etc…

  20. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

Using your “logic”, the HS in my home town of ~5000 good folks would be considered 3 different schools, as they have 3 separate buildings that have classes.

    Let’s get some facts straight:

UW-Stevens Point is part of the University of Wisconsin system, and has been since 1973.

UW-Stevens Point is located in Stevens Point, WI. They have a satellite (yes, that is how it is spelled) in Marshfield. But UW SP and UW SP-Marshfield are under the same administration and share instructors. They are NOT two separate institutions.

Mid-State is one institution with multiple campuses under the same administration. The are not stand-alone institutions.

” there is professional college at UW- Stevens Point”. As opposed to an unprofessional one? Amateur one?

You just can’t accept that you made a mistake, and your only recourse is to blame others for your failure.

  21. Mar

Yep, another irrelevant post from Le Roi.
    Stupid is as stupid does.
Just a lot words of blather and making no sense at all.
And still doesn’t explain why 5 colleges in in Wood and Portage counties are acceptable.

  22. Mar

“Using your “logic”, the HS in my home town of ~5000 good folks would be considered 3 different schools, as they have 3 separate buildings that have classes.”
    Umm, no.
If the buildings are on the same property, have the same teachers and same sports teams, then it is the same school

What a stupid and moronic comparison.

  23. Le Roi du Nord

Once again, using your “logic” answer these; do the 3 Mid-State locations have separate basketball teams? Do the 2 UW-SP locations have separate football teams? Is the property for the 3 Mid-State locations under the same ownership? For the 2 UW-SP locations?

Come on mar, use some facts for a change!

  24. Mar

I refuse to answer your stupity, Le Roi.
And yes, they have sperate basketball teams for Mid State campuses. And UW Stevens Point and UW-Stevens Point and UWSP Marshfield have seprate basketball teams along with different sports at all the schools.
But you could have figured that in 1 minute with Google.
You are just plain wrong, ignorant and Stevens Point wants their diploma back.

  25. Tuerqas

Mar, at 11:35 you called him a moron…:). But the popcorn was good.

  26. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

Answer the questions asked, or would that destroy your “logic” ?

“sperate”, “seprate” ? Once I can understand as a typo, but misspelling the same word wrong twice in different ways is beyond careless. And you call me a moron. Maybe the nuns at Silver Lake hit you too many times with a blunt object.

  27. Tuerqas

Le Roi, it is true that I would not call you a moron. To me that implies foolish thought is actually happening. Drones/programs, have no original thought at all, foolish or otherwise. ‘Drone’ is much more accurate for the modern liberal, and you sir, are a modern liberal.

See above for a perfect example: You specifically ask if the different satellite Colleges have separate basketball teams and Mar answers ‘yes’. This answer does not seem to be in your programming as one of the answer possibilities because, like a computer when an answer is not in its programming it simply asks the question again…as you did. And computers are good spellers, though I seem to remember you are not exactly perfect, the difference between a drone and a computer, I suppose.

  28. Le Roi du Nord

    T:

The problem is that the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield (the official name per their website) does not currently have any sports teams. Had mar, as he suggested I do, spend a minute on Google, he would have known that, as would you. It is poor form, and disappointing coming from you, that you would follow the lead of a known liar and exaggerator like mar, rather than do your own research. But once a drone, always a drone, eh?

I only call out the spelling errors of those that claim superior intelligence, such as mar and k. If they can falsely call me a moron, a pervert, or a murderer, I can righteously call out their frequent and recurring errors. And you should as well, seeing as you seem to grow more insulting and less thoughtful as time goes on. But everyone needs a hobby.

  29. Mar

Well, Le Roi, your lying again. Look up their web site, home of the Marauders and look up the league they are in.
Why do you insist on lying so much?

  30. Mar

I’ll await your apology for your lying but probably won’t get it, Lying Le Roi.
And since you don’t want to write my name properly, I won’t show you any more respect either

  31. Le Roi du Nord

    mar:

US-SP @Marshfield does not currently have any sports teams, and won’t until the next school year. Look it up.

  32. Mar

    Again, you are lying.
You never mentioned anything about next school year.
And they were only off because if Covid. They had athletics before then.
The coaches are probably already hired and players being recruited.
You just an evil disgusting liar.

  33. Jason

    >I only call out the spelling errors of those that claim superior intelligence, such as mar and k.

It only took a few busts in the chops for you to stop doing that in general. It was quite humorous when you did it and then made spelling and grammar mistakes of your own. I really enjoyed it.

    Mar, T,

You two fell into his stupid, idiotic trap. He’s not got you arguing if these schools have sports teams – rather than if Mar was actually correct on the number of colleges in those counties…. as if having a sports team is a deterministic trait of if an entity is a college or not. Very stupid point for him to be arguing, but it’s all he’s got. Now he’s defending it like it’s his last hope.

Maybe next he’ll bring up if each campus has a parking lot, or a cafeteria, or public bathrooms. Who knows, he’s a moron.

  34. MjM

Nazi Nort doubles down on his stupidity: “The problem is that the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield… does not currently have any sports teams.”

No, once again the problem is that giant stick up yer ass, Mr. Elected Official.

Believing a college can be a college only if it’s students participate in Intercollegiate team sports is absurd enough, but lecturing others when the failure lies fully at your feet is pure vulgarity.

But that, as we have seen many many times before, is expected from you.

BTW, numbnutz, because you obviously don’t know and are too stupid to figure out, I should mention that the UWSP-Wausau basketball team is known as the Huskies.

  35. Le Roi du Nord

    j & mjm:

mar brought up the sports issue, “If the buildings are on the same property, have the same teachers and same sports teams, then it is the same school”. I have been trying to get him back on the right page. Pay attention, guys..

  36. Mar

There goes Pervert Boy Le Roi lying again.
I started with at there are 5 colleges and Universities in Portage County. That is a fact.
Lying Le Roi cones back and lies when says there are just 2 colleges and universities.
    I pointed out his lies.
He then accused me of lying with his lies.
And now Lying Pervert Boy is trying to deflect the conversation.
The nuns want to have a word with you Asswipe Le Roi, something about your evil ways and exorcism.

  37. Mar

And look, poop, poor, Le Roi, trying to play the victim card.
    What a Karen.

  38. MjM

Nazi Nort embeds a bigger bum stick: “ mar brought up the sports issue, “

No, numbnutz. What Mar brought up was parts of the whole; things that make up and identify a schools’ individuality from other schools. You know, like ‘campus’. Granted, it’s a concept you appear unable to comprehend.

It was _you_ who emphasized the singular part called “sports” with your idiotic and wholly irrelevant, questions. That you again try to shuffle that off to others just further exposes your egomaniacal vulgarity.

But I’ll play for the moment. Answer this question, Mr. Elected Official:

If UWSP and UWSP-Marshfield are the same college, why haven’t UWSP-Marshfield’s athletes been competing in Division III leagues?

  39. Mar

Of course, these five campuses have different faculty and administration employees, they are located in different cities, they compete against other or against other teams, have different diploma, certificates, degrees, different mascots, have different goals, have different acceptance standards and more.
And still,5 colleges and universities in just Wood and Portage counties are not needed.

  40. Mar

But Pervert Boy doesn’t want to understand this.
    Just acting like a troll.

  41. Mar

Gotta be honest, Paul lies about Le Roi and Le Roi lies about me.
    What’s the difference?

  42. Paul

I never lie about Le Roi du Nord.

  43. Mar

Looks like Pervert Boy Le Roi ran away like a coward.

  44. Mar

I guess Coward Le Roi has decided he was beat and beaten like a liberal judge who watches a baby being raped and now wants a plea deal. Le Roi’s hero.

  45. Le Roi du Nord

Not at all, kiddies. There only so much BS that one can and should tolerate. mar was wrong about the number of colleges (just look at the name for pete’s sake),j is only out to piggyback on mar and his failures, and paul wouldn’t know up from down. All your name calling and threats don’t make you correct, they only reinforce your lack of comprehension.

  46. Mar

And another lying post by Lying Le Roi.
Look at the the names: Mud State College Marshfield. Mid State Wisconsin Rapids. Mid State Stevens Point. UW Stevens Point Marshfield. UW. Stevens Point.
    And Le Roi lies again.

  47. Mar

Oh, add in in Mid State Adams.
    Wrong again Dumbass Le Roi.
And I know how to capitalize names. I guess you don’t.
Steven Point want your college credits back. Your 5 of them.

  48. Le Roi du Nord

    “Mud State”. Classic fail, mar.

The correct name is University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield.

  49. Tuerqas

    Le Roi

    “T:

The problem is that the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield (the official name per their website) does not currently have any sports teams. Had mar, as he suggested I do, spend a minute on Google, he would have known that, as would you. It is poor form, and disappointing coming from you, that you would follow the lead of a known liar and exaggerator like mar, rather than do your own research. But once a drone, always a drone, eh?”

Just out of curiosity, when you said ‘Marshfield does not currently have any sports teams’…’until next year’ were you saying that you were right just now, at this point in time, but you know you will be wrong starting next year using that argument? And it was you who brought the separate sports team idea as proof of a College.

Are you also basically saying that if Mar’s original comment had been ‘5 public college/university campuses’ instead of “5 public colleges/universities”, you would have said nothing? This 50 comment thread has been because you wanted a (very) minor coup of pointing out that satellite campuses are not strictly separate Colleges in all senses of the word? Which utterly disregarded the POINT that a 3rd 4th and 5th satellite campus hardly seems necessary for so small of a local population, in my (and Mar’s) opinion. Disregarding the point to argue semantics seems to be your thing when it is not quoted out of Google (and, incidentally, why I am not disappointed in myself on this thread).
Drone huh? I doubt you could find one single topic where my ideas could be found virtually word for word in 1 to 15 million liberal or conservative articles on Google…like every single one of the topics you ‘discuss’. Drones are the ones that fit in with the 1 to 15 million others. That’s you, dipstick.

  50. Merlin

Dipstick. I have no idea where that originated, but it’s always been a favorite. Rowan & Martin, maybe?

  51. Tuerqas

I think it came as a lightening up of dipshit. Gosh darn, dipstick, that sort of thing, but it has always been a favorite of mine too. I kind of use it as ‘go back and measure your intelligence because it might be low’ after a particularly stupid statement(s).

  52. Mar

“Had mar, as he suggested I do, spend a minute on Google, he would have known that, as would you.”
I actually went to the schos web site.
The sports were suspended because of Covid, for I think 2 years.
The teams were never disbanded or quit, just suspended.
They had the teams, though they didn’t play.
Big difference of not having any teams.

  53. Le Roi du Nord

    t:

“were you saying that you were right just now, at this point in time”. Yes. as the discussion takes place now, not in the future, nor in the past.

Perhaps a very minor “coup” to you, but I prefer calling facts as facts, and trying to keep the bar higher. If you are satisfied with a life filled with errors, that is your choice. Semantics, clarity of thought, obvious exaggeration, and outright falsehoods are all part of the mix. If you are fine with those, go for it. I’m not.

Drone was your word, you brought it up. As for quoting Google, surely you have seen all the”prove it” demands from the usual cast of characters here, Google is a source for references.

  54. Jason

    >Yes. as the discussion takes place now, not in the future, nor in the past.

So according to your logic… two years ago there were 5 colleges, this year there are not, and next year if plans are executed there will be 5 again? My but you are a fool. Oh but wait, the teams were never disbanded and still exist… what does that do to your simp brain?

    >As for quoting Google, surely you have seen all the”prove it” demands from the usual cast of characters here, Google is a source for references.

You completely missed his point…. as we all knew you would. Moron.

  55. Le Roi du Nord

Not at all. Two years ago there was UW-SP with a branch campus at Marshfield and Wausau, and Mid-State Tech College with campuses in Marshfield, Wis. Rapids, and Stevens Point. Two institutions, with several branch/satellite campuses each. The same holds true for today, and may again next year. You are free to speculate on what will happen in the future.

As far as missing the point, nope that was on those that believed whatever nonsense mar was jabbering about.

  56. Mar

I see pervert boy blew another chance to say that the pervert judge that enjoyed watching babies being raped,is a horrible person. Birds of a feather.
And Stevens Point wants their diploma back. If you cannot understand what my original post was about, I am pretty sure you were there as a special education test student instead of a college student.

  57. Le Roi du Nord

If you hadn’t noticed, this thread was about the UW regents. It had nothing to do with your current obsession.

And once again you are wrong about my status at Point. But you are wrong about most things, so no one is surprised. At least you are consistent.

  58. Mar

Oh, poor boy Pervert Boy Le Roi, trying to play the victim.
Were you in those videos of babies being raped? Maybe that’s why you are so silent.
What an uneducated fool you are.
Twisting and turning and still refuses to condemn a pervert judge who watches babies being raped.
UW Stevens Point point would never have you as a student there. They actually have standards there, unlike UW-Madison.
Are you having conjugal visits with the judge? And bringing a baby along?
