Wisconsin Senate Votes to Repeal Emergency Order

Great. Despite how Scott Bauer wrote story, they didn’t repeal the mask mandate. They repealed Evers’ Emergency Order.  Governor Evers has used a string of emergency orders to order a mask mandate and other restrictions to our civil rights. By definition, an emergency doesn’t last nine months. This is just our normal now and there is no reason that we should be living under the rule of one dull grey slow man. This is about returning to the normal law-making process through representative government and exiting an era of personal rule and arbitrary government.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Republican-controlled Wisconsin Senate voted Tuesday to repeal Gov. Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate, despite warnings from virtually every sector of the health care community that doing so would impair efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Both legislative chambers have to pass the resolution in order to undo the mask requirement. The Assembly, controlled 58-30 by Republicans, scheduled it for a vote Thursday.

[…]

The Senate passed the resolution to repeal the mask mandate on an 18-13 vote, with all Democrats and Republican Sens. Dale Kooyenga, of Brookfield, and Robert Cowles, of Allouez, against.

Does anyone know what Kooyenga’s deal is?

UPDATE: Dad29 answers my question on his blog:

This “logic” is seriously flawed.  Here’s Kooyenga on why he won’t vote for a resolution suspending Evers’ “mask order.”

…”Governor Evers has not followed the law,” said State Sen. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield). “I have to balance out my priorities here — and right now, my priority is to open our schools. Open the schools, get the kids in the classrooms. And my fear on this resolution is that people in our state will use the actions in this chamber to say, ‘Well, there’s another reason to close our schools.'”…

Soooo… arbitrary rule and abandoning representative government is cool because then the government teachers might go to work? Might…

You missed the mark on this one, Kooyenga.

    Kooyenga is stupid.

    See my blog.

The worst aspect here is that Kooyenga is correct. This legislative action will be spun so hard to the left as to be of no benefit to Republicans at all. Six months late and totally ineffective.

This sudden indignation by a legislative body that sat on their collective asses for months had no real problem with the Evers overreach because… polling showed a majority of Wisconsinites were able to rationalize away the arbitrariness of the repeated mask mandates. Preservation of representative government was nowhere on their list of things to do when it actually mattered. They ran and hid.

The real damage has been done and the legislature is entirely complicit. They’re as guilty of arbitrary government as Evers is… and we haven’t even begun the discussion of their three monkeys approach to the 2020 election malfeasance.

We agree, Merlin, that Vos/Fitz did an EXCELLENT job of hiding while the Democrats ass-raped election laws.

Kooyenga, however, has no excuse for telegraphing that he’s perfectly willing to accept hostage-taking by WEAC. By the way, Kooyenga s NOT a member of the School Board, is he?

The job of the Republicans (which they may or may not actually do) is to make damn sure that rebellious little WEAC Wack-a-Doodles are painted with indelible spray paint as the evil selfish bastards they really are.

No, I don’t expect Cock Robin will do that. He’s fat, happy, and doesn’t give a rip.

This lame bit of theater for the faithful is an attempt to negotiate terms after already having unconditionally surrendered. Unanimity in the idiocy won’t improve the outcome a bit. Evers and WEAC will continue to do what they want without fear of meaningful action from the legislature.

Dad29 – You are correct, my senator Dale Kooyenga is stupid – and ripe for a primary challenge!

  6. MjM

Kooyenga is covering his arse. He won his district by less than 2.5 points. A district that includes uber-lib areas Elm Grove and ‘Tosa, and soon-to-be lib Brookfield.

Correct. It’s up to the school boards to fire the teachers who refuse to work. But that’s not the problem of the Legislature which–after a lot of delay, decided the rule of law is what they should defend.

Maybe the “Trump Party” making Cock Robin #3 in a 3-man race focused his little mind?

Darn, if MjM says is true, my how things have changed since I lived there.

  9. dad29

Elm grove is not ‘uber-lib,’ and bkfld is only about 40% Lefty.

Kooyenga is not ‘covering his ass.’ He’s flat-out pandering. He should try being a man. If he loses being RIGHT, oh, well.

So, if the legislature over turns Ever’s mask mandate, can local governments then impose their own mandates?

  11. Le Roi du Nord

If Kooyenga is “stupid”, what does that say about the R voters that elected him?

  12. Mar

They said the sociopath is stupid.

“ So, if the legislature over turns Ever’s mask mandate, can local governments then impose their own mandates?”

    Yes

  14. Tuerqas

“If Kooyenga is “stupid”, what does that say about the R voters that elected him?”

It says they are not being properly represented, duh. The voter can’t really fight stupid, the Parties put up/approve the candidates for the primaries for the most part (and usually have first allegiance to their votes in Congress too). All we can do is vote for the chaff they put up or ‘throw away’ our vote on a candidate for a Party that currently has no chance.

    To the LeeeeeeeeeeeRoy Troll:

    *yawn*

    Thank you Pat.

BTW, Pat, still waiting for your apology for lying about me.
