Hundreds, and possibly thousands, of Wisconsin motorists might have been wrongly fined - some for thousands of dollars - by the Illinois tollway because of a mistake in the I-Pass system that electronically deducts tolls from credit card accounts set up by drivers.
“They’re out to get us - there’s no doubt about it,” said Kevin McAllister of Germantown, who was mistakenly fined $140 for tolls dating back to 2006.
And even when the problem was resolved and the fines were cleared, some I-Pass holders said they were charged the cash price on tolls instead of the half-price discount they signed up for when they purchased the devices.
“That’s the whole point of having an I-Pass,” said Patrick Patterson of Milwaukee, who got hit for $1,000 in bad fines.
