That sealed my final defection from the GOP. I remember watching it and telling my wife, “Wow, they’ve become the party of trailer trash”.
Looking back at his statements shows us alot about how wrong he was. Back then the Republicans were so sure of their party and that the war was winnable. Since then the definition of victory has changed so many times we have all but forgotten what we went there to achieve. Iraq was not the threat to our freedom. Osama bin Laden is still at large because they went to fight in the wrong country. G. W. Bush does not have the spine of steel that Miller suggested or he would have served his term in Viet Nam instead of using deferments. How sad it is that Miller may have brought on the last 4 years of failed policies and entrenched the partisanship that the Republicans seem to wallow in. I am thankful that it is getting close to the end of G.W. reign but I don’t feel we are safe as the mounting tensions between Israel and Iran are beginning to boil. I am not ready for my family, My most prized possession, to suffer through world war three. We need to make it for 5 more months. God help us all!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Owen. Still as engaging today as it was four years ago. God save our nation if the Democrats take control of this country.
Always go to reach out to the hillbilly vote.
And did you catch the wall-to-wall coverage of Republican Jim Leach’s speech to the DNC last nigh— What? You mean it wasn’t plastered all over like Miller’s was and Lieberman’s will be? I’m shocked!
Agree with Miller or not, the speech was entertaining. Leach’s was not. That’s why Miller’s made the cycle.
Cletus on the Simpsons is similarly entertaining.
I don’t know how you watch that speech and then seriously vote for the people who encouraged it.
