WTDY Changes Format - Fires Staff
For all of those liberals who complain about not having “equal time” with conservative talk radio, here we have yet another case of liberal talk radio failing.
A shakeup at WTDY radio, 1670 AM and 106.7 FM, has left several broadcasters out of work, including longtime Madison radio personality John “Sly” Sylvester.
The radio broadcast industry is fickle which can turn on a dime based on demographics and trends. Thus, Sly of all people should not be surprised by any of this. It is the nature of the beast.
That said…it couldn’t have happened to a nicer goy. Bye-bye, Sly!

Really, WTDY’s issue is none of the above. It’s that local content is expensive to produce and impossible to syndicate, no matter how great (or not great) it might be. Going to sports talk is easy because the station isn’t responsible for the bulk of the programming that airs.
WTDY will air Christmas music for six weeks (which costs almost nothing) and then switch to CBS Sports radio when they launch their 24/7 lineup on January 2. If anything, running Jim Rome from 11-2 will eat into Rush’s ratings in that area.

As already pointed out, Republicans once again control all of state government, which is all I really care about. And after spending (and wasting) tens of millions of dollars attempting to control state government, it is - in fact - you and the Democrats who may “suck it”, as you so politely put it.

It’s tough for the madison market to sustain 2 liberal news-talk stations. (they still have an air america situation which runs more syndicated stuff, which as RS illustrates is much cheaper.)
I’m intrigued to see if the Madison Radio market can sustain 3 sports talk stations.
It doesn’t seem that that’s a likely scenario. However, if they get high rated sydicateds (like Rome) that could spell the end to the big 1070.
The business side of this is interesting to me.
Also, as a Moderate democrat, who’s a member of the party that lives in Dane County. Sly’s a sexist jackoff.

Despite being a sexist asshat, Sly has a loyal following at places like BloggingBlue.com proving (as if we didn’t already know) the fact that the “war on women” thing was a hollow meme to fool dullards into voting Obama/Biden yet again.
The conspiracy theories are a-flyin over how this is corporate censorship purposefully tanking a profitable format just to silence liberal talk. If anything, Sly’s behavior reflected poorly on their side. His radio presence did nothing but provide Sykes and others with material.
