Woman Serves Booze to Kids

What the hell?

A 36-year-old Kewaskum mother is accused of serving champagne and Mike’s Hard Lemonade to 10 children - ages 11 to 14 - attending a birthday party for her 12-year-old daughter at a West Bend hotel.

Sarah A. Shay has been given 10 municipal citations accusing her of serving alcoholic beverages to minors at the Dec. 18 party at Hampton Inn Hotel, 1975 S. 18th Ave., Police Chief Kenneth Meuler said in a news release Tuesday. Shay faces a fine of $681 on each of the citations.

  1. Thats what happens when you are not a parent but a best friend. I hope that they punish her good.

  2. What a moron… $6800 in fines, is not enough in my opinion. I think she should sit for 15 days in addition.

  3. WTF?  I actually agree with Doug???

A fine is not enough; she needs to sit and think about what she did.  Child Protective Services should also evaluate her fitness as a parent.

  4. Your storing this post in “Culture” is a good idea.  It’s American culture to criminalize this behavior.  In other cultures, the Champagne region of France, for example, it might be ordinary behavior.  That’s what cultural relativism is really all about, should the topic ever recur in your hearing.

Time has changed American culture, and it may change back.

Just as time as changed our laws, and they will change again.

  5. The woman served booze and hard lemonade to the kids to the point that some of them were puking and then crashed with a dozen kids in a hotel room who were using condoms as balloons and sleeping in the bathtub.

It’s hardly “ordinary” behavior - even in France.

  6. I agree - her own children should be taken into protective custody. It’s one thing to give a child a few sips of wine at Christmas or Thanksgiving, quite another to be knocking back wine coolers with your 12 year old daughter at a motel swimming pool.

There’s never a shortage of stupid.

  7. You know Lloyd, I think our society probably is too prudish in regards to alcohol consumption. I also think our society is probably too prudish in regards to its drug laws. However, I don’t think that a woman should be taking other peoples children out on a bender without their permission, and then lying about it when she gets caught.

This woman deserves whatever she has coming to her… I wonder if she was one of those moms who wears short skirts and too much makeup around the boys from her daughters class?
