Tragic on multiple fronts.
An artist killed herself after aborting her twins when she was eight weeks pregnant, leaving a note saying: “I should never have had an abortion. I see now I would have been a good mum.”
Emma Beck was found hanging at her home in Helston, Cornwall, on Feb 1 2007. She was declared dead early the following day - her 31st birthday.
Her suicide note read: “I told everyone I didn’t want to do it, even at the hospital. I was frightened, now it is too late. I died when my babies died. I want to be with my babies: they need me, no-one else does.”
This is a very sad story, but it is common. Maybe they don’t commit sucide, but many women who have abortions suffer from depression after the abortion. Will Planned Parent tell you this? Will NARAL tell you this? Will liberals tell you this?
Of course not, they have an interest in providing as many abortions as possible and they don’t, presumably, tell the women about the depression they face after abortion. Depresssion is common after after an abortion, but, according to the liberals, this does not exist. They want as many abortions as possible.
This is a very sad story, but it is common.
Actually, this is a very sad story, but it’s extraordinarily uncommon. Last year there were about 200,000 abortions performed in England and Wales, which means that 199,999 of them didn’t result in suicide.
Of course not, they have an interest in providing as many abortions as possible.... Liberals...want as many abortions as possible.
I haven to assume you’re not serious.
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 1023 hrsAlso: Many women who have abortions suffer from depression after the abortion. Will Planned Parent tell you this?
Planned Parenthood very specifically addresses the emotional effect of abortion.
At least use the Google before pulling false statements out of the air.
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 1029 hrsGordon, did you read that peice. It is so full of crap. According to Planned Parent, abortion causes no problems, and there is even less depression than following childbirth. They also say having an abortion is a postive experience. Come on, that is so full of crap.
There is so much more information showing the opposite but of course Planned Parent Hood doesn’t tell you that. They tell you only 1 side of the story.
But of course, if they showed studies that dispute their findings, they would be against their of agenda, more abortions, because after all, that would reduce their income, as Planned Parenthood provides abortion services at many of their centers.
I was wrong in when I implied all liberals want more abortion, but there are many anti-life advocates who do want as many abortions as possible.
According to Planned Parent, abortion causes no problems...
Wrong again. First, none of the claims are made by Planned Parenthood; they’re taken from third-party studies. Second, there is no claim that “abortion causes no problems.”
That said, about a third of women in the U.S. have had abortions. If the majority of them were mentally traumatized by the event, there would be far greater opposition to abortion in this country. Yet support for abortion rights is actually stronger among women than men.
There are many anti-life advocates who do want as many abortions as possible.
What the hell are you talking about?
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 1535 hrsC’mon: does anybody think for a minute that the same outfit that kills defenseless babies for a living has any qualms about whitewashing potential side-effects?
Posted by Calvin Freiburger on February 24, 2008 at 1608 hrsOh, and how ‘bout some substantiation for the claim that women support abortion more than men? Last I checked, men supported it more, which makes sense - there are plenty of pigs out there who’d like nothing more than using women for sex and not having to worry about being “inconvenienced” with a kid.
Posted by Calvin Freiburger on February 24, 2008 at 1611 hrs1/3 of women in the U.S. have had abortions, where hell did you get that number?
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 1622 hrs1/3 of women in the U.S. have had abortions, where hell did you get that number?
From the American Journal of Epedemiology, Vol. 159, No. 5.
“...at first abortion rates existing in 1982 in the United States for the 5-year age groups, 46 percent of women in the United States would have an induced abortion in their reproductive lifetime.”
So it’s actually more than one third.
Calvin, you’re correct about men supporting abortion rights slightly more than women; the difference is about two percentage points. My error.
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 1925 hrsSo, you are using a 1982 figure and the quote does not really say anything, to be honest. It would be nice to see the entire quote.
Posted by on February 24, 2008 at 2300 hrsThat is such a tragic, tragic story. People often make decisions such as abortion without thoroughly thinking things through. It is often the case that the immediate effects are the only ones people think of. Nothing long-term.
Posted by Ajit on February 25, 2008 at 0710 hrsOkay, Dan, here are more recent numbers presented in a very clear way. From Family Planning Perspectives, Vol. 30, No. 1 (Jan. - Feb., 1998):
“At 1994 rates, women can expect to have 1.42 unintended pregnancies by the time they are 45, and at 1992 rates, 43% of women will have had an abortion.”
You can read an abstract of the article here.
Posted by on February 25, 2008 at 0742 hrsIt is very sad and a shame this woman, for what ever reason, could not get an abortion. Sometimes it is WORSE if you forcer a woman to carry a child she does not want. People think if you have babies that would have been abortions someone will adopt them. That is so untrue or their would not be parentless children now.
While for my self, even in the even t of rape I would not get an abortion I would not deny another woman that choice.
For dan, it is so nice to see a man trying to make the rules for women’s bodies. When you have a vagina you will have a say. You know MOST women who get abortions do so out of fear because her MAN has deserted her. You’re a pig
Posted by holly on February 25, 2008 at 1121 hrsHolly, you can try to demagogue this into a gender issue all you want; it’s not going to keep us from speaking on behalf of abortion’s victims.
Posted by Calvin Freiburger on February 25, 2008 at 1244 hrsWell it is a gender issue right up until the man who got the woman who wants and abortion steps in. Until then it is her body.
You are not standing up for abortion victims you are standing up for taking control of someone else’s body.
You have no right to dictate whether or not another human keeps a child in her womb or not.
Posted by holly on February 25, 2008 at 1533 hrsIf the way you intend to take that child out of the body is by killing him or her, then sure I do.
Posted by Calvin Freiburger on February 25, 2008 at 1548 hrsWhen do you consider it a a child and what right to have to make her keep it? Would you rather see women die because abortion is illegal?
