Wisconsin Tax Revenues Down

As expected...

The bulk of the shortage comes in two areas:

• Cigarette tax collections are now expected to be $92.3 million less than originally projected over the two years covered by the budget. Lawmakers raised the cigarette tax by 75 cents a pack last year, to $2.52; the tax boost fueled increased cigarette tax collections, but not as much as legislators expected.

• Minnesota’s departure from a tax reciprocity program will also mean a $91.8 million loss for Wisconsin.

Hmmmm…. they jacked up cigarette taxes and it didn’t result in the straight line increase they projected.  Gee, who could have predicted that?   smirk

And the end of the tax reciprocity program is a direct result of Doyle’s incompetence in handling the issue.

One year left of this clown, right?

  1. When this budget passed I said it was 2 billion off.  boy, was I wrong.  It is 2.7 billion to date, not counting the 3.5 billion that the feds gave us.  The future budget with increases could put us as much as 15 billion in hole.
Top that Jim Sullivan and Jim Doyle.
Note to Jack Lohman.  the best way to expand free speech is to expand it, not limit it.

  2. The one thing I have to give Doyle and Obama for ... they managed to tax me into quitting smoking.  They’ve also done wonders for the international cigarette distributors who sell online as well.  I’m sure they are equally appreciative of they’re contributions to their bottom lines.
