Wisconsin voters have a clear choice in the April 7 race for state superintendent of the Department of Public Instruction.
The race features a consummate and careful insider, Tony Evers, versus a spirited and straightforward outsider, Rose Fernandez.
The State Journal endorses Fernandez.
The pediatric nurse and mother of five will be a strong advocate for change—someone who will use the mostly symbolic post of state schools superintendent as a bully pulpit to press for reforms, many of which President Barack Obama favors.
This lady is no joke. I watched a small debate between her and Evers - and she KICKED HIS ASS. She’s sharp, smart, and has some excellent ideas for improving the quality of education in Wisconsin. As opposed to educrat Evers who is basically the candidate of more of the same.
We have a real chance here to get someone in office who really understands what education is all about - the students! Not the teachers! As a former instructor myself - I can tell you that the best teachers put the student’s education above their own petty bickering.
True professionals can have disagreements with their superiors, but can still go into the classroom and provide excellent educational experience for the students. Dragging your issues with school administration into the classroom is just about as unprofessional as you can get.
Astoundingly great news! Maybe we finally have the real opportunity to level this tilted playing field to the advantge of parents and kids!
I too saw the debate last night and got the paper this morning.
Evers was boring on TV. I still think that the Wisconsin State Journal is way too liberal—favors abortion, homosexual weddings, etc. But sometimes they get it right.
The only disappointment I have with Mrs. Fernandez is lack of response to my inquiry about endorsing the Eddie Eagle program in schools (Madison wants nothing to do with it, surprise), arming the school teachers, bilingual “education” and a moment of silence.
My communication with her did not come off as half-cocked, like I might be some sort of crack pot.
Still, I have yet to receive a response, and I would hate to sit this one out.
Of course I didn’t even bother with contacting Evers.
Last week the Madison Isthmus had positive things to say about Randy Koschnick! (sorry to go off topic!)
I also heard Koschnick and Abrahamson on Wisconsin “Public” Radio and Abrahamson sounded like a simple mind. I was not expecting that from her. She repeated stuff from her campaign commercials!
I think the fact that she will be 85 (not a typo!) when her term ends if she is re-elected should be an issue!
Abrahamson is just terrible. I’d vote for a chimp in diapers if it was running against her.
When will there be more information about the use of public funds and the work of school administrators working to keep Evers in their pocket?
