Now all of that racing revenue will be going to Elkhart Lake instead of Milwaukee because the Milwaukee Mile couldn’t get their act together. Great for Elkhart Lake and Road America!
The NASCAR Nationwide Series is leaving Milwaukee but not Wisconsin.
NASCAR officials announced Monday that there will be a Nationwide race at the Road America road racing circuit in June.
The race will be moved there from the Milwaukee Mile, which has had financial problems and announced recently that it will shut its doors to big-time racing.
The Mile had been scheduled to host a Nationwide event on June 19th.
That will now be the date for the Nationwide race at Road America, which is located in Elkhart Lake, about 60 miles north of Milwaukee.
Road America is one of the top road courses in the world. In the past, such series as CART, American Le Mans and Can Am have all raced there.
There it is. The racing center of Wisconsin.
The Elkhart Lake race track is way cooler.
Bring back the “handicap”!!
Anyone remember Elkart Lake during the beer strike?
My wife and I will be camping there for this weekend! This track is like going to a park and a race breaks out! Very exciting indeed!
I have tears in my eyes. IF any of you know how hard the Mueller Bros. and dozens of others worked to get NASCAR at The Lake before it went to Milwaukee you know what a victory this is for Wisconsin. Very much way cool.
Is there anything worth while that Milwaukee “isn’t” driving away?
Better track, better venue, better location, better neighborhood, more parking, camping on grounds, more than just left hand turns…
This is more than just a victory for Elkhart, and Road America, this is a victory for all of the fans who will get to go out to one of the most accessible racetracks in the world. This is a victory for Nascar for adding another track that has something other than left hand turns. This is a victory for Wisconsin, because Road America is much more appealing to a television audience than the Milwaukee Mile.
I see nothing but positives about this, I like open wheel and Le Mans racing, but I may well go and check out my first Nascar race this summer!
I have been waiting on this since I was a kid will be fun to watch this much horsepower on this track not to mention the right hand turns. I was always told Nascar had certain logistical needs that could not be comprimised , such as size of hospitals in area, amount of hotel rooms, nearest airports etc, I hope it all works out and its not just a one year deal.
Sheboygan area has also done well with the PGA tour in the past, all this close to home, see you all this June.
