Wisconsin Band Suspended

Ouch.

The University of Wisconsin marching band has been suspended while allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct are investigated.

The band won’t play Saturday during a nationally televised football game between the No. 18 Badgers and No. 14 Ohio State at Camp Randall Stadium.

The university made the announcement at a news conference Friday night, saying the behavior is consistent with conduct that put the band on probation in 2006.

  1. When I was band-hazed at UW-Eau Claire, all I got was hauling around the trombone cases of the upperclassmen, being screamed at, arranging flip folders, and the requirement to grow a really bad goatee when I was 18 (TISH!!!).

Suppose there was so much I missed at the “Big School” with all those really smart people who got in there.

  2. It’s a shame. The UW Band had a better chance of beating Ohio State than the football team does.

  3. They aren’t hurting the band, they are hurting the fans.  Make the band run laps, run up and down the stairs at Camp Randall.  Reduce their grade, but no, they hurt the fans.

  4. Seems to me that with the thousands of band alumni scattered around the state, Mike Leckrone can give a shout out and have a decent band (at least in the stands) for tonights game.

    I agree.

When I read the story yesterday Mike Lekrone (sp?) said that this was only “a small number of individuals”

Which begs the question… If its just a small number of individuals why are you punishing the whole band AND the people who paid good money to come see your product on the field which at UW certainly includes the band…

    OR

It wasn’t just a small group of individuals and the powers that be are scared to death of getting sued by a hazed band member and so they are making every attempt to make drastic measures to appear to be doing “all they can”

And my last observation… Allegations fo alcohol misuse?  REALLY At UW?  NFW!!!!

    wink

  6. This incident, which ocurred within 2 years from the previous offense, casts a bad name for marching bands all over.I don’t think these students learned their lesson last time, and drastic measures should be taken. They seem to think they can get away with this misconduct without any serious repercussions. They represent our State and the UW-Madison, and this does not reflect well on us. I am mad because my daughter and her friends in high school marching band seem much more mature and responsible than these “young adults”. If they have too much freedom, they should take some away for a while.Unfortunately, the whole group may need to suffer, because the whole group depends on each member performing at their best, if some fail, they bring the whole group down.

  11. Hi everyone

I am a new member and really would appreciate some advice. for past two years I have been befriending an alcoholic. It really has been the most tragic story - this lady was only 52 and a doctor also. Anyway I have been to see her practically every day for past two years. She died suddenly last week.

The post mortem showed she died of liver failure. What I would like to know is ..................and this is what is torturing me. When I found her she was sitting in exact same position I had left her in. Also going on what she had drunk since I had last saw her day before - tells me she has died probably an hour or so after I left...... What actually happens when someone dies of liver failure? I have been torturing myself that she would have been in agony or having some sort of seizure/attack?

I am so sorry to be so morbid but this is tearing me apart. She only had me. She had more money than all my family and friends put together but she had nothing. She was terrified of life.
