Wow. Disgusting.
The Assembly overwhelmingly voted Wednesday to censure Rep. Jeff Wood (I-Chippewa Falls) for three charges of driving under the influence, but they came short of removing him from office.
The move came as legislators near the end of a legislative session where they focused on clamping down on drunken driving.
They voted 73-24 to censure him. A proposal to expel him was tabled 49-48.
One has to put this in the context of this story:
Bills to regulate the payday lending industry will head back to the Senate after the Assembly amended it to include curbs on auto title loan businesses.
The Assembly also voted to deregulate landline telephone service providers passed by the Assembly, but a number of other major bills have been moved to Thursday.
A censure means precisely nothing. That’s why the Democrats pushed that and defended Wood from being expelled. They might need his vote on Thursday, the last day of the session, to pass some of their crap bills. The price of that is that they have disgraced the Assembly and forced the taxpayers to pay Wood another $30k or so until he is replaced in November.
This is not surprising, but it shows just how scummy the Democrats in the Assembly are.
Here’s the roll call on tabling the bill to expel him. Take notice that Wood was the tie breaking vote. Yes, he actually voted on whether or not to expel himself. What a rodent.
Seriously, you’re hanging this on the Dems alone? this is one more crisis of courage that both parties have failed. Legislators in WI are by and large cowards and ineffective at getting anything meaningful done.

They are very good at one thing. Taking my money and wasting it.
Wood was not the tie breaking vote, there needs to be a two-thirds vote to expel him. It is the next sentence after the section you quoted.
The vote was on a motion to table the bill to expel him. A tabling motion only needs a simple majority.
Yes anon, this is on the Dems alone.
If Wood is not capable of making sound judgments in something as simple as driving, just how is it we are supposed to trust him to make sound judgements in issues such as taxes, voter ID, health care, etc.?
Why not leave Woods’ fate to the voters of his district?
Wisconsin Assembly Shames Itself
You repeated yourself.
The democrats should be ashamed. (Mark Maley typed this!)
No amount of political opportunism should allow this cretin to continue in office.
Wood has no business casting any votes- and the only thing dumber than the Dems is the Voters of Chippewa Falls.

The penalties for drunk driving in this state make us a laughingstock- and that you can put on both parties.
Spineless weasels beholden to an industry that has left us long ago.
Think of all the packer and brewer game attendee’s who are aiming 10,000 pounds of steel at all of us as they return home from a game.
Even you second amendment enthusists agree that this “bearing of arms” is wack.
My thought
One stop- probation and education- stop #2 -jail time -12 month’s
and start making random stops where people casually drink too much-(like packer + brewer games )-great place to stop drunk drivers before they kill someone not themselves
I remain -“Left leaning but stable” but a fascist when it comes to Repeat Drunk drivers
Clearly he should have abstained.
