Wireless Power

Awesome

A system that can deliver power to devices without the need for wires has been shown off at a hi-tech conference.

The technique exploits simple physics and can be used to charge a range of electronic devices over many metres.

Eric Giler, chief executive of US firm Witricity, showed mobile phones and televisions charging wirelessly at the TED Global conference in Oxford.

He said the system could replace the miles of expensive power cables and billions of disposable batteries.

  1. Now THAT’S practical.

  2. Old news.  Nikolai Tesla showed us how to do it 100 years ago.

  3. The energy required for “wireless” transfer of power is immense.

Yes - it can be done - but its not very practical.

  4. Exactly! He had working demonstrations of this when? 100 years ago. If people would have respected the guy a little more, instead of dick-riding Edison, we’d have free wireless power for the whole planet.
Then again, it’s about time someone is making an effort.

  5. Didn’t Grandpa Munster perfect wireless electricity?  I recall him turning on the lights at Lily’s beauty parlor with comical results.  grin

  6. Well, mens health, there is the whole lightning in the sky all the time thing, but Tesla probably would have worked out the kinks eventually.

I have always thought it would be practical on a smaller scale like this, though.
