This pretty much misses the point entirely.
Illegal Latino immigrants do not cause a drag on the U.S. health care system as some critics have contended and in fact get less care than Latinos in the country legally, researchers said on Monday.
Such immigrants tend not to have a regular doctor or other health-care provider yet do not visit emergency rooms—often a last resort in such cases—with any more frequency than Latinos born in the United States, according to the report from the University of California’s School of Public Health.
It’s not a matter of how much the illegal immigrants use the emergency rooms compared to legal immigrants. It’s the fact that if the illegal immigrants were not in America, they would not use the emergency rooms AT ALL.
On a side note, I wonder why they only studied Latino illegal immigrants and not all illegal immigrants.
On another side note, this is based on a phone survey from 2003. It took four years to break down a phone survey? A grad student with a TI calculator should have been able to do that in an afternoon.
