...MMSD dumps sewage into the waterways. It’s like clockwork.
Combined sewers in central Milwaukee began overflowing to the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic rivers and Lake Michigan shortly after 6 p.m. as heavy rain continued across the metropolitan area.
Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Executive Director Kevin Shafer ordered gates from combined sewers to the deep tunnel waste water storage system closed around 6:05 p.m.
Was talking about all the rain today with a buddy at the gym… When I left he said “just remember, whatever you flush tonight ends up in the lake tomorrow”
Unfortunately, I guess thats probably true.
New company, same mismanagement
Where’s the sierra club or the global warming gestapo now when theres a valid problem?
That is because the MMSD board is appointed by a liberal mayor who cannot be embarassed by a Democratic governor. Where is J.B. on this?
Great Article on mmsd in this months Milwaukee Magazine.
Might actually learn more about the real truth!
Why am I not surprised? We spent how many billions of dollars on this deep tunnel system and it never gets past half capacity before MMSD starts dumping waste into the waterways. There need to be some serious changes at MMSD.
And this is why, once again, my family and I will be purchasing a pool membership instead of taking advantage of our close Lake Michigan beaches. :(
Think of it as MMSD’s contribution to falling water levels in the Great Lakes.
My bad, I ran my dishwasher last night. Sorry guys. :(
This is great news; I say give Lazich all the water she wants.
Maybe she can drink some and cause a special election as a result.
Of course, the likelihood that she would actually drink this water is practically nil, since in reality it would be for watering lawns and washing vehicles.
The whole problem is that deep tunnel should have never been built, they should have separated the combined sewers. It is interesting to note that when they start their overflows, they continue to leave the separated sewer come in, but the combined sewers are the ones that get shunted off.
Why didn’t we separate the sewers? Becasue then all the cost would have fallen on the City of Milwaukee (or perhaps Milwaukee County) instead of fixing the problem they came up with this idea so they could stick everyone else with paying for the problems with the sewers in Milwaukee and Shorewood.
Now we have spent billions on the deep tunnel and it doesn’t even work. The choice of costing out the sewage treatment by the value of the property was also a curious one.
Fix the combined sewers like we should have done in the first place and we wouldn’t be treating our lakes and rivers like a toilet.
