Whale Found On Bow of Cruise Ship

That’s not good

A rare whale was discovered wedged on to the bow of a cruise ship when it docked in a Canadian port.

The 70ft fin whale, a threatened species in Canada, was found when the Sapphire Princess docked at the Port of Vancouver, the cruise company said.

It said it had “strict whale avoidance” measures and it was unclear where, when or how the whale became stuck.

Tourists looked on as the dead whale was examined by fisheries department staff.

  1. Guess it says something about the power of those boats when the person steering it doesn’t notice the 70 foot whale impaled on the front.

  2. Wow that’s a huge whale…  I don’t know how fast the cruise ship was going, but you would think a whale would be able to get out the way. Maybe it was sick or already dead?

  3. Bill:

That was my thought.  I’m guessing “strict whale avoidance” measures apply to LIVE whales.  I’m betting the whale was sick or injured or DEAD before getting hit.

  4. Great, next we’re going to hear about the eco-terrorists aboard the Steve Irwin throwing bottles of butyric acid at cruise ships…

  5. You’d think it would have to be dead or maybe it commited suicide and threw itself in front of the ship.
