This week residents of the West Bend School District received a survey regarding the upcoming school referendum. Ginny has found some flaws with it.
The WB School District survey has a specific question about talk radio…how bizarre! How does Talk Radio influence whether kids can read and write???
Here’s the Question: “Which of the following talk radio stations do you listen to on a regular basis?”
This survey is available on-line and likely will be getting a lot of WEAC input from across the state. How’s that for local accountability? I think for any on-line submissions, contact info should be required of the respondent to prevent outside influence in the district. Either they require contact info or they should take the survey off-line.
The survey is over here is you’d like to take a look.
I certainly agree with Ginny that if the goal of the survey is to get the opinion of the people who will actually vote on the referendum, then putting it online without registration and identity verification pretty much invalidates the results. It will be interesting to see the difference between the results of the hard copy vs. online survey.
I am still scratching my head over the Talk Radio question. It is one thing to ask questions pertinent to the referendum and “facility needs.” It is another to throw in a question that clearly has nothing to do with the survey. What was the purpose? We can only speculate…
What I find interesting is that ANYONE can fill out the survey. If I had wanted to, I could have given them a West Bend zip code and completed the survey. No name, no address, no verification of identity. Interesting to see of the teacher’s union urges everyone to fill it out.
This seems like more of an exploratory/non-advisory poll, perhaps designed to see what some of the early attitudes toward the referendum are and maybe to what extent talk radio helps shape opinions out there.
I wonder if the district is planning to publish the “not so accurate” statistical information before the referendum?
