West Bend high school students will soon have another opportunity to earn a letter for their varsity jackets.

West Bend School Board members unanimously approved the schools’ newest sport at its Monday evening meeting. Students will soon be able to compete in trapshooting in addition to more mainstream sports. “The kids would have to follow the athletic code. They could earn letters, things of that nature,” said Scott Stier, the West Bend West High School athletic director. “We see this as a unique opportunity to perhaps reach some student athletes that we otherwise may not be able to reach.”

According to Stier, the program would not cost the district a penny. Instead, students would pay an activities fee of $25, just as they would for bowling or skiing.

  1. Of course, the school is not going to let them use real guns, right?  What would Bob Costas say?
