WEAC has released it’s legislative agenda. Here’s what they want for voucher schools.
WEAC supports legislation to hold private and religious voucher schools to the same standards as public schools, including:
- Minimum hours of instruction.
- Licensure of all instructional staff.
- Background checks on teachers.
- Grade advancement, high school graduation, attendance and parental involvement requirements and standards.
- Administration of required state standardized tests and testing required under the so-called “No Child Left Behind” law, including public reporting requirements.
- Prohibition of forced religious activity.
- Nondiscrimination standards.
- Enforcement by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) of rules and regulations.
- Certified reading specialists and reading programs.
According to WEAC, religious schools shouldn’t be able to actually require the teaching of religion. Uh huh. If this happens to go through, expect many of the voucher schools to just leave the program - which is exactly what WEAC wants.
Watch the video that they posted in the article on the WEAC site. She claims that there is no accountability in the voucher school - uh - what about the fact the parents can go to another school if voucher school isn’t what they want?
How much more accountable can you get?
While we certainly don’t want any fly-by-night schools in the program - it is obvious that WEAC blames the voucher school for stealing THEIR money!
If the public schools were better than the voucher schools (and they should be for the amount per student that is spent!) parents wouldn’t go through the hassle of going to a voucher school.
As much as I dislike WEAC and all unions in general, they have some humorous agenda items.
I don’t think they want to end religious activity as much as they want an end to the harrassment of school districts for the slightest religious activity as many nut cases tend to do. The agenda item was worded rather oddly.
“- Administration of required state standardized tests and testing required under the so-called “No Child Left Behind” law, including public reporting requirements.” Absolutely.
I would have added beefing up those tests to better reflect how Wisconsin is doing compared to states with tougher tests.
Here is one of my favorites’:
-Background checks on teachers.
Does this mean they actually want to rid the system of porn watching kiddie rapists?
Their whole agenda just smacks of “well we have to do it, why don’t they” mentality.
I went to a Catholic School and I turned all right-well except for that whole believing in God thing- And the way I am reading this is that they want to turn schools that actually EXPECT things out of their students, and turn them into schools like well…
MPS!
Another statement by a far left liberal group that seems to be afraid of God’s message…as in “what if they are right?.”
This comes as no surprise whatsoever…..I say that all Christians should revolt against this Nero-like rejection of Christians by praying in school, whenever they want, even with a threat of suspension or expulsion.

Piss of a Public School teacher. Send them to a Catholic School.
I knew it! I just knew it! Here comes the anti-discrimination law right down the throats of the private school system! Doesn’t private mean PRIVATE? If I got a voucher to fly any airline I wanted to, I would choose the one that fit my needs. This is how vouchers work.
Just another effort to shut Christians up.
If WEAC spent as much time working on getting kids to read as they do worrying about how the CHOICE schools are making them look bad we would solve a lot of problems.

This is how LIBERAL organizations work.
They bitch and cry about how others are making them look bad, and instead of rising up and asking how they can do better, they do just the opposite, and ask how can we bring the competition down to our level. THIS IS WHAT LOSERS DO! And WEAC reinterates this each and every time they issue a press release.
So what are they to do?
Why they run to Jim Doyle and remind him that he owes them of course!
So, other than the religious issue, are there actual beefs people have with private schools receiving public tax dollars having to live up to the same standards we deem absolutely necessary for public schools?
Can’t understand my fellow left leaning friends/groups obsession over religion. If people want their kids to be taught the same mythology they were brought up with I’ve got no problem.
WEAC can’t even get the public schools to do some of the things:
“parental involvement requirements and standards.” They don’t have that in the public schools.
“Enforcement by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) of rules and regulations” And why is the MPS special education department being sued and will cost MPS and the taxpayers 10’s of millions of dollars?
“Certified reading specialists and reading programs”
Is every district in the state complying with this one? I doubt it.
They also want nondiscrimination standards. Do they want to force religous schools to take people who do not fit their standards? Do they want the voucher schools to take students they are not trained to take, like the severely disabled, severely emotionally disabled etc..
WEAC should worry about the public schools before they worry the voucher schools.
Ditto’ing what Dan said and applauding his statements.
