Washington County Administrative Coordinator Doug Johnson presented a $116 million county budget proposal — down approximately $9 million from the 2008 budget — to the county Finance Committee Wednesday.
Over the next week, the committee will review budget requests from each county department before settling on a proposal it will advance to the full County Board.
Johnson’s $116,225,255 proposed budget would be supported by a tax levy of $40,093,700, but the levy would drop to $38,343,700 if supervisors agreed with his plan to put $1.75 million in county sales tax revenue toward the levy, he said. The 2008 levy is $38,551,251.
Good for Doug Johnson for putting up a responsible budget that shows that Washington County won’t put an extra burden on its citizens during these difficult economic times. Now let’s just hope that the County Supervisors will show the same kind of consideration for the taxpayers.
Which services is he cutting and what fees will be increased? there’s a lot more to a budget than just tax inputs.
Read the story. The cuts seem very reasonable.
Glad to see they aren’t taking their cue from the Germantown School Board where an increase will result in lowering the tax rate.
eh?
such a good read you gave us here, I really appreciate that.
