UK Humbled By Iran

What does the UK expect from this?

The UK is not seeking a confrontation with Iran over the seizure of 15 Royal Navy personnel, Downing Street says.

Tony Blair’s official spokesman said footage of Faye Turney and the others shown on Iranian TV was wrong in terms of “basic humanity”.

Iran insists they were picked up in its waters and an official said Ms Turney’s planned release may be delayed because of the UK’s “incorrect attitude.”

[...]

“We are not seeking to put Iran in a corner. We are simply saying, ‘Please release the personnel who should not have been seized in the first place’.”

Well, since they said “please,” I’m sure Iran will release their hostages.

Iran committed a clear act of war.  They took another nation’s soldiers hostage.  That’s pretty clear.  They are intentionally trying to provoke the UK and the UK is confirming the Muslim world’s belief that the West is weak.  By not taking a strong stance against the taking hostage of their own troops, the UK is making it more dangerous for Western troops all over the world.  If Iran proves to our enemies that you can humble the West and get concessions by merely taking a few soldiers hostage, we can expect a lot more hostage taking.

  1. The West no longer has the will. It will continue to lose ground until something even more drastic happens. Then, maybe they’ll wake up. The far left in many countries, with a helpful media, have turned many against any confrontation. It’ll take something drastic to wake them up. Kind of like it took a Pearl Harbor to wake up pacifist America in the 40’s.

I also do not agree with that learned political and world mind, Rosie O’Donnell, that this was staged. Rosie, stick a sock in it. Preferably both.

  2. Don’t forget that Iran has helped killed about 170 American soldiers as well.  It’s time to ratchet up pressure.  No, libs, this does not mean negotiations, going to the UN, sancations or talking nice.  what it means is that you give them an ultimatium, then begin to blockade their ports and cause them massive economic problems.  Iran is almost broke now and it will take just a little time for their oil revenues to dry up and hopefully, the people will revolt.  Is it dangerous, yes, and it is not an all out war, but it might work.  Certainly has a better chance of working than going through the diplomatic channels and stops the West looking weak.

  3. Perhaps we can follow the Reagan doctrine and give Iran some weapons in exchange for the hostages?

  6. What would Israel do?  Unfortunatley, they still have hostages in Palestine, if I am not mistaken from the war last year.  Hopefully, Great Britian won’t let it last that long.
