U.S. Remains Firm on Status of Afghanistan Detainees

Excellent.

The Obama administration told a federal court late Friday it will maintain the Bush administration’s position that battlefield detainees held without charges by the United States in Afghanistan are not entitled to constitutional rights to challenge their detention.

“Having considered the matter, the government adheres to its previously articulated position,” said a Justice Department document filed in federal court in Washington.

The Obama Administration got this one right.

  1. Would this be a case of “I was for it before I was against it?” Hypocrisy at it’s finest.

  2. Just one more example that the vast majority of President Obama’s campaign was baloney. The question is will there be anything that Obama does change.

  3. I await the 72-point headline apologies to former President Bush from the news media ..... Still waiting ....

As for President Obama supposedly not changing things, he has already weakened the country economically and diplomatically.  Race relations are also turning sour again.  Let’s not ask for more.

  4. He’s trying to nationalize the banks and the car companies - that’s more than enough change for me.

Maybe they figured out there’s actually a reason the bad guys aren’t let go!  Yeesh.

  5. “Race relations are also turning sour again”.

Jesus, what ELSE do you want to blame him for?

  6. Laker….

    What are you referring to?

  7. Wisconsin Cop, I was referring to Lloyd’s comment (post #3).  In one sentence he mentions how “he (Obama) has already weakened the country economically and diplomatically”.  In the very next sentence he states that “race relations are also turning sour again”.  Whether Lloyd intended to or not, he has linked those two statements together.  If he indeed feels that way, he should explain how Obama has soured race relations.  I’d also be curious how he is able to measure the racial climate today.

I understand there are not going to be many Obama supporters on this blog; I get that.  But in just one month in office, he has had to deal with crucial issues that were left on his plate to clean up.  We should keep in mind that he didn’t create these problems and he’s offering solutions.  The prior administration did too little too late.

  8. “The prior administration did too little too late” IN MY OPINION.

  9. Thanks for the feedback Laker. Yes, I agree Obama has a lot on his plate. He is our President and I will support him. Having to accept a loss outside of the party lines I believe in is a tough pill to swallow. (Hence the political web/blog site. Ha Ha). Bush was given a tough pill as well. He didn’t ask for 9/11. Those were unfortunate cards dealt to him. The aftermath that came with that…..well, if I get punched, I’m going to punch back and then some.

In my opinion, terrorism is what has us in this tight spot that we’re in today. I kind of look at it as “fruit from the poisonous tree”. It started on 9/11 and has eaten up everything it has touched since. Many blame the Bush administration for where we are, but he too was offering solutions. Terrorism is the bottom line in my book. I didn’t always agree with Bush either but I didn’t blame him for Hurricane Katrina.
