TV Viewership

TV execs are struggling to figure out why television viewership, especially among 18- to 24-year old males, is down significantly.

Two words for ya:

Reality shows

The program lineups have shifted to a more female-oriented schedule.  Too many reality shows and crappy dramas, not enough comedy and action.

In my house, I attribute my decline in network viewership to the History Channel (quite possibly the greatest invention EVER!).

  1. Is it a coincidence that men are leaving at a time when gay-themed TV shows are at an all-time high?

  3. I agree that the history channel is great, but the Discovery, especially DSC Wings, the Cartoon Channel, Samuri Jack is awesome and a TIVO make my life sooooo much better.

  4. I do love the History channel but they did bother me this weekend.  “Who wrote the Bible” was on and on the surface it seemed well done and an in depth look at the entire history and basis of the Bible.  But the show skipped some very important things making the show just revisionist BS.  I dont understand why people so fear to hear the truth about their religion that they are basically dishonest to avoid putting it out there.

      Networks- nothing good on.

  5. Jay,

I watched the same program.  What part would you consider revisionist BS?

  6. I couldn’t help but wonder the same thing that Joe Kelley mentioned.. being that I’m basically the same demographic that the tv execs are suddenly perplexed by our lack of support, and being that I am definitely not interested in the latest trend toward gay tv and nearly-porn garbage.. there’s not much reason to turn on the tube

other than the History Channel, of course.. oh wait.. somebody already mentioned that, too.. I guess I’m just in Redundancy Mode today

  7. It probably doesn’t help that lately straight men on TV are portrayed as too dumb to dress themselves properly (Queer Eye) or as doofuses (Everybody Loves Raymond, According to Jim, etc.).  Who wants to see himself that way?

  8. Jed,

Whew, I’m relieved my first response to this was lost by a disconnect.  It was obsessive.

All stories in the Old Testament have been found in earlier form from several cultures predating what that show seemed to discuss.  Every last story [+hundreds] has been found in ancient Summeria.  The show skipped it completely while saying they were discussing the earliest renderings of texts that made it into the Bible.  It’s simply not true.

The Old Testament was clearly based on these stories.  Actually stories that were based on earlier stories 5 times over.  The original Old Testament stories from Summeria paint a very different picture of “God”.  According to the stories the Bible is undenyably based on monotheism is a completely false notion.  I’ll refrain from getting too into it unless asked but the fact that the show skipped them altogether and said many of the things they said as fact shows that they were dishonest and revisionist by simply ignoring a mountain of evidence against much of what they said.

  9. Long live the History Channel!  Although, some times they do have crummy stuff, it beats network television hands down.
