Turnout

Tuesday’s election in Wisconsin is supposed to be a low turnout election.  The state average is expected to be somewhere below 20%.  But there are some regional issues that will spike turnout in some areas.

Washington County is expecting turnout somewhere north of 60% because of the West Bend School Board referenda and a surprisingly heated municipal judge race.  Washington County is overwhelmingly conservative.

Dane County is also expecting a huge turnout because the County Executive, Kathleen Falk, is embattled and has serious challengers.  Madison is overwhelmingly liberal, but rural Dane County is surprisingly conservative-to-moderate and may turnout higher to get rid of Falk.  Of course, the liberals will turn out just as heavily to protect her.

Oshkosh has some school referenda too, which will drive turnout a little higher.  Winnebago County tends to be slightly more conservative than not, but it’s not hard either way.

So, dear Wisconsin readers, put on your pundit hats.  What other local elections out there will either increase or decrease turnout in a strategic area?  How will these peaks and valleys impact the two state races on the ballot (DPI and State Supreme Court)?  Other thoughts?

  1. Last time old Queen Bee ran, she carried every county except Washington, if I recall correctly.

Don’t think that’s gonna be the case this time for the old cow.

  2. I live in Madison, and hold out hope that Falk will lose tomorrow.

There’s a lot of disgust with Falk over a lot of stuff.

  3. Will someone please explain why John McCain was too old at 72 to be president, but Shirley at 75 is not too old to get another 10 year term.
No need to answer my question, I just figured it out - she’s a liberal and they can do no wrong.
