Yes, I live in the Stone Ages and don’t have a DVR. But on at the same time tonight:
Goodfellas
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Blazing Saddles
Star Wars III
Well, at least Blazing Saddles will be heavily edited, so probably not worth it. Oh, who am I kidding? Even the unfunny parts of Blazing Saddles are hilarious.
:zpopcorn:
Amazing how one night can be full of great TV and the next night has absolutely nothing.
Ironically enough I am watching Cars on DVR.
Star Wars and LOTR I have all on DVD. I got a DVR two years ago and I don’t know how I lived w/o it. You never miss a show! You watch TV when you have time, not when a show happens to be on. It changes the way you watch.
...and with the DVR, you can pause live TV-one of my favorite features.I can now answer the kids million questions, and not miss the news or best part of the show…
The edited version of Blazing Saddles is missing a lot, of course, but it also contains scenes that are not in the full length version for some reason, and they’re worth seeing as well.
I’m with Bill and Alicia. The DVR is a huge convenience and time-saver. I won’t even watch any of my regular shows while they’re on live because I can watch them later in the night (or the next day or the day after) and save myself 18 minutes of commercials an hour, give or take.
That’s 18 more minutes I can spend wrangling with your other commenters! ![]()
hmmm.. I don’t have DVR… I don’t even have cable… why would you pay for tv when its free????
Actually please don’t tell me… I don’t want to know what I’m missing! Ignorance is bliss! ![]()
When I travel on business I"m in awe of the cool shit that is on cable. The history channel… I once watched a documentary on guns/firearms… WAY cool. Made me want to get cable.
I have Blazing Saddles on DVD (BTW, the best comedy ever made), so I never bother with the edited version.
Star Wars III? They quit being interesting after Return of the Jedi.
Not much of a Goodfellas or LOTR fan.
The Awesomeness of Cable? Two words:Food…...Network.
Goodfellas was edited so much as to be practically a different movie. If Joe Pesci can’t say fuck, well, every line of his dialogue is altered. They’ve done a lot over the last several years to make the dubbing-in of “freaking” sound less contrived, but still.
I can’t stand watching movies edited for television. Unfortunately the children are now old enough to understand what’s on TV. So we have ATT and the DVR. Now it’s getting to the point where I can’t even watching professional sports live.
Oh, and the best documentaries on the History Channel now take 20 minutes to watch.
I have a DVR, but it’s not one from the cable or Tivo companies. I have 79 dollar WinTV HVR-1600 (which I’m sure you can get on ebay for cheaper) and SageTV (which costs 99 dollars). The $200 dollar investment is well worth it in time and money savings and it ties my DVD collection, MP3 collection, and my photos all into one nice little package (the newer version also includes Youtube). A DVR is definitely worth it. Mostly I just DVR my LIBERAAAAAAAAL mainstays… The Daily Show, Colbert, Olbermann, and Maddow. Movies are a dime a dozen these days. if you like these older movies, buy them on ebay. Blazing Saddles is a available for less than 10 dollars.
I have a solution for you, I have a media center PC which obviously is connected to cable in my home office. It acts as a dvr. Next, the best gift I ever got the kids was a xbox 360. With it connected to the home network I can access media center on the pc and play back recorded shows or use it to watch live tv with all the benefits of a dvr as it will pause or rewind live tv. Iv’e digitally encoded all my DVD’s so I can access them with just a remote as well as all my digital pictures home movies and music from the computer. Its the future.
