This Day in History

On this day in 1911, the U.S. Army adopted John Browning’s Model 1911 as its standard issue sidearm.

An updated design, the 1911A1, was introduced in 1924, and remained the standard issue sidearm until its untimely replacement in 1985.

  1. Howdy Ags!
Nice to see some fellow Aggies out here in the blogosphere. Just ran across your site today. Just a tad to the right of my own, but certainly worth reading.
If you like political debates, as I do, then perhaps I can oblige on occasion.
    Best of luck!

  6. Via Boortz, today is the 60th anniversary of income tax withholding (one of the greatest scams ever forced on the populace, IMHO).

  9. Note that the Thiry Years War started out as an internal struggle between various polities within Germany, with Sweden involved for much of its duration, and France largely on the sidelines but bankrolling armies thru much of it. Very messy war; its effects continued into this century.

  10. Yeah, it was a big messy proxy war, for the most part, but I try to keep these short grin
