The Voting Continues

Fun and games in Milwaukee.

After four hours and 36 ballots, the Milwaukee County Board today remained unable to agree on a new chairman for the next four years.

The latest count: eight votes for Lee Holloway, the current chairman, and five votes each for Supervisors James “Luigi” Schmitt and Gerry Broderick. That pattern has held up for 12 ballots.

It takes at least 10 votes from the 19-member board to elect a chairman.

UPDATE: Holloway wins on 45th ballot!

  1. Newly elected Supervisor Theo Lipscomb has abstained on every vote, saying he didn’t feel it was appropriate for a newcomer to weigh in on the issue.

    Uh, come again?

All I ever think when I read this stuff, is thank goodness for Scott Walker.

  2. “They beat me up,” Holloway said, adding that he did “nothing wrong but forget” to disclose his properties. He attributed that to sloppy bookkeeping.

I haven’t lived in Milw County for 18 years now, and I was too young to follow specifics within the Milw Co. Board when I was there, but reading the above quote would lead me to assume that Holloway then has no duties related to Milw Co. bookkeeping and budgets, right? I mean, they couldn’t possibly elect a “sloppy bookkeeper” like Holloway again after he admitted that, right?
