“the uncertainty was different”

Irrespective of whether the corporate welfare in this case is for good or ill, the process is telling.

“In the end, the dollars were not different; the uncertainty was different,” Klapmeier says in Flightglobal. “In Maine, they were trying to put together (financing) parts that would line up; in Wisconsin, they had the authority to get the pieces done.”

State officials say they have been working with Kestrel since a meeting at the EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh in July and the discussions got serious in September.

Sometimes being easy to work with weighs more then dollars.

  1. He’s not saying being easy to work with weighs more than dollars. He said the dollars were equal so that was the difference. If the dollars weren’t equal I’ll bet he’d have been able to stomach a little uncertainty.

I’m really uncomfortable with this. The dollars are huge, the jobs are a maybe. And let’s be frank, how many of those jobs will go to residents of Minnesota? More than half?

On a $/job basis I’ll bet the handout to Spectrum is a much better deal.

  2. Funny.  At the AFP rally in Waukesha, Dr. Tim Nerenz complained that the Wisconsin officials lacked the authority to make decisions which is why his company located their new facility in Michigan instead… Curious…

I suspect that Dr. Tim didn’t get the level of state kickbacks he wanted from Wisconsin.  Am I the only one who finds corporate job blackmail thoroughly despicable.

  4. This is the part the rube lefties just don’t understand.

Scott Walker is BUSTING his ass daily to try and recruit companies to come here or expand here.

Tom Barrett meanwhile continues his multi-year crusade on how to have us rake leaves more efficiently.

Anyone business person who has dealt with Walker and Barrett knows that Walker will do anything to help foster jobs.  Barrett is awful.
