I see that the election of Obama is helping one sector of the economy.
Last month, as an Obama win looked increasingly inevitable, there were more than 108,000 more background checks for gun purchases than in October 2007, a 15 percent increase. And they were up about 8 percent for the year as of Oct. 26, according to the FBI.
No data was available for gun purchases this week, but gun shops from suburban Virginia to the Rockies report record sales since Tuesday’s election.
‘‘They’re scared to death of losing their rights,’’ said David Hancock, manager of Bob Moates, where sales have nearly doubled in the past week and are up 15 percent for the year.
On Election Day, salespeople were called in on their day off because of the crowd.
Obama has said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms, but that he favors ‘‘common sense’’ gun laws.
Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he’ll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault and concealed weapons.
As a U.S. senator, Obama voted to leave gun-makers and dealers open to lawsuits; and as an Illinois state legislator, he supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on all firearms.
I was down at the Bob and Rocco show in Waukesha today, buying parts for my AR-15 build, and I noted that AR-15 and AK magazines have doubled in price; what used to be $10 is now $20.
I would feel better about it if this meant people were stocking up to go to war, instead I think it simply means people want to have them to sell later on when the market for them has increased the price several fold. Perhaps Washington and Madison (I weep for the Men after which these cities were named) should still take note, though.
Fletcher’s reports that ‘business has been good’ in the last several weeks. A cursory look around the place tells me that their inventory of guns is smaller, but not minuscule.
I don’t think either Washington or Monroe would groove on yahoos lugging around automatic weapons they don’t need.
But these people worry about their manhoods being taken away. Too bad they haven’t been so protective of their jobs.
You have a greater chance of loosing your gun under a Republican than loosing your gun under a Democrat.
Do you just make this up as you go along, Keith?
Automatic weapons are already illegal except under special permits. The gun rush to which this article references has nothing to do with automatic weapons. And you’re going to have to prove your last statement.
The only thing Keith has the ability to prove, Owen, is his own ignorance. That might not be true for all matters, but certainly for all matters on which he comments here. (I only add that caveat because my verification word is “most.” Heh.)
“lugging around automatic weapons they don’t need.”
This is why the founders put in the 2nd amendment.
It is not up to you Keith if I “Need” a gun. It is always interesting that libs like Keith refer to law abiding gun owners
as “yahoos”. Thanks for reminding us that there are people like you who want to decide if I need a gun.
As Noah Webster wrote:
Tyranny is the exercise of some power over a man, which is not warranted by law, or necessary for the public safety. A people can never be deprived of their liberties, while they retain in their own hands, a power sufficient to any other power in the state.
As a woman I am concerned about my safety. I always have been concerned about my “personal” safety but now I’m concerned about my safety in another way. I don’t own a gun, that was always left to husband and son so I felt safe. I now am thinking about buying a gun for my own protection, something I never ever though of doing. It’s not for my “personal” safety anymore but it’s to have in case someone comes for me because I disagree with the policies that will change, or perhaps I speak out against someone or something. Remember, they came for the least of those able to protect themselves (abortion), they came for the sick/elderly (assisted suicide) and now they will come for me. Who is going to protect me if I’m unable to do so. I won’t buy a semi-automatic or any type of gum like that. It probably is going to be a hand gun and then I will have to learn to use it. I would also like to thank the NRA for their stunning endorsement of Cong. Steve Kagen. I hope you reap what you sowed. Idiots all!!!!

I picked up an AR-15 on Oct. 31st along with a mossberg tactical shotgun and a S & W model 637. The Shooters Shop was REALLy busy! Busier than I’ve ever seen it. Went back in last friday to look at some trijicon scopes for the AR and it was CRAZY busy. They said business was WAY up.
Called Badger Guns when I got home checking on what they had in stock for Aimpoints and Trijicons and they said business was way up for them also.
