The Fundraiser That Wasn’t

Oops.

The Wisconsin Republican Party is blasting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett for a fundraiser with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that never happened.

The state GOP sent out a press release Wednesday saying Barrett hosted a “super secret” fundraiser with Pelosi on Tuesday night but didn’t want to admit it. Their release showed drawings of Pelosi handing Barrett a bag of money.

Problem is, there was no fundraiser. Spokesman for both Barrett and Pelosi confirmed to The Associated Press that it didn’t occur.

Republican Party spokesman Andrew Welhouse says he thought the fundraiser happened because he heard about it on Milwaukee talk radio.

  1. This is rich.  Which of the two talk radio noseblowers concocted this whopper?  Wonder if he will have the cojones to apologize?  I wouldn’t bet much on either one of them having the stones to “man up.”

  2. Wait - you mean that everything on Milwaukee talk radio isn’t true?

At least Welhouse is honest about how little thought occurs at RPW these days.

  3. Looks like the thrice-wed, twice-divorced Charles Sykes is the guilty party.  This item is still up on his web site—five hours after the mouth-breathers at the RPW were shamed into apologizing:

“PRIORITIES Story Published: Sep 1, 2010

    “Email from listener:

“Most people are distancing themselves and their campaigns from Nancy Pelosi and for good reason, she’s radioactive at this point.  She’s in town tonight for a Barrett fundraiser-staying over night at the Pfister Hotel. Obviously he wants to do this quietly because it’s Pelosi.

“President Obama doesn’t make time to come to Milwaukee to address the American Legion convention as past presidents make every attempt to do, but he makes time to come to Milwaukee on Labor Day to address what is really “Public sector’ laborfest-SEIU, AFSME, MILW CO Labor Council, Dist Council 48, the ones responsible for driving up the cost of government and beneficiaries of most of the “non-stimulus” money.

“It shows where his priorities are.”

This is how the right-wing blogospher operates.  A nose-blower e-mails Sykes, he puts it up, and the RPW writes a press release based on it.  Around and around the crap goes—where it gets posted nobody knows!

  4. It was a dumb mistake, and he should at least mention it and offer an “oh shit.” I think he will. Hope so.

  5. It’s funny how often the Left mentions Sykes’ personal life.  It’s as if they believe if they can squeeze just one more drop of venom into every statement, Sykes will finally shutupshutupshutupshutup.

Of course, the fact that their favorite US Senator has ALSO BEEN DIVORCED THREE TIMES doesn’t bother them in the slightest.

So Anne, do you want to tell us the greatest moments in your personal life?

  6. Unless Wikipedia got has it wrong, Feingold has been divorced twice, not 3x.

    From Wikipedia:

Feingold has been married twice. Russ and Sue Feingold were married from 1977 until 1986. They had two children, Jessica and Ellen. He then married Mary Speerschneider (also previously divorced) on January 20, 1991. Mary (née Erpenbach) had previously been married to Timm Speerschneider, a Madison attorney, with whom she had two children: Sam and Ted. Sen. Feingold’s 2003 income tax return showed two home mortgages and ownership of an $8,000 1998 Buick.[9] On April 11, 2005, Russ and Mary Feingold jointly announced that they would be seeking a divorce.[10] When not in Washington, D.C., Feingold resides in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Feingold has two daughters, Jessica and Ellen. He is a member of Beth Hillel Temple in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He lives in Middleton, Wisconsin.

  7. James,

Were Feingold’s divorces stemming from adulterous affairs?

And when will the right be questioning everything Sykes has ever said?  We know that this would have happened if the Dems had committed this gaffe.

  8. It was a mistake. People make them.

It really isn’t even a right v. left thing, unless you are an absolutely venom filled partisan jackass who has absolutely NOTHING else in the tank, intellectually speaking. Human beings make mistakes… GWB held the hand of that Saudi dude, BO rode a bicycle, made for 90 year olds, in khakis and white tennis shoes. I forgot my POS system manuals at home this morning and had to make the 1.5hr round trip commute twice, mistakes are mistakes.

As for the two men’s marital issues? Seriously, what the hell does it have to do with anything? Thrice divorced? Twice divorced? Who cares? How on God’s green Earth does any of this crap speak to anything even remotely relevant?

I admit that I am an ideologue, and that I cannot stand progressive ideology, but to stoop to crap like this, or what that guy said about Scott in another thread the other day is just absolutely sophomoric, and truly indicative of why our political system is where it is.

I hope that Charlie apologizes for this, it is a simple case of unbelievable sloppiness, and carelessness. If he doesn’t, Barrett should make a big deal out of it.

  9. My fault, Feingold’s been divorced twice. The point remains, why the hell is Sykes’ personal life (or anyone’s) so damn important to the left?  What’s the point of bringing it up?  Capper, do you see anyone saying, not only is Feingold against our First Amendment rights, but he can’t keep a wife?  But I see this all the time on the left.  Why does every criticism of Sykes or anyone on the right have to cram as much rhetorical poison and personal attacks into each sentence?  Does it just sound funny to you?  Does it make your pathetic life somehow seem better?

And you’re a perfect example of this, Capper.  You have a whole site dedicated to nothing but sneering, personal attacks.  Is there some inadequacy you’re making up for or what?

  10. Why do people bring it up?  Seriously?  It’s because Charlie comes off as holier than thou more than half of the time.  It is really not that hard to figure out.

That would make sense, and your logic may be sound if Charlie were criticizing Feingold directly for his marital issues, but he certainly wasn’t.

Funny, I never hear you criticize Sykes for doing the same damn thing.  Or are you an adherent to the usual double standard?

If Sykes wants to dish it out, even if he has to make the crap up as he goes along, which he does do as often as not, he should expect to have to take it.

But until you hold him to the same standards, your mewling is irrelevant.
