Heh.
Obama blasted Paul Ryan for not passing a farm bill to help suffering farmers in Iowa. Um… Paul Ryan and House Republicans passed the farm bill two weeks ago. But, since when did facts matter?
The GOP did not pass a farm bill. They passed a small bill that gave some farmers some loans and drought relief only for this year. The full five-year farm bill made it through committee but never got to the House floor.
The Senate, on the other hand, passed a five-year farm bill that the House refuses to consider.
This is all at Jim Hoft’s NYT link, by the way, but this is what you get for expecting Hoft to have any kind of reading comprehension.
Soooo… they DID pass a farm bill. They just didn’t pass the one the Democrats want.
No, the GOP passed a bill with some benefits for some farmers, but it was not “The Farm Bill,” as has been commonly understood and referred to and and written and passed as such for decades. The GOP’s own “The Farm Bill,” which they wrote and passed out of the Agriculture Committee, couldn’t get to the floor.
So when Obama said Ryan and his colleagues needed to pass “The Farm Bill,” he was right. There’s one from the Senate that the House could take up or one from the House GOP themselves. But the full House hasn’t considered or passed either.
But Obama specifically referred to drought relief, and that aspect was taken care of, pending action in the Dem action in the Senate.
the Senate Farm bill needs to called the FOOD STAMP BILL! It’s a joke! 80% of funding goes to the food stamp program…
Ed Morrissey writes, “Paul Ryan and House Republicans passed the farm bill two weeks ago. The Democrat-controlled Senate hasn’t acted on their own version so the two bills can go into conference committee. Maybe Obama should call Harry Reid and find out what the problem is … and while he’s at it, ask him why his party hasn’t produced the budget resolution required by law every year, for the last 1200 days.”
