  1. Going on Monday to see Eric Clapton.  My wife won a couple tickets to that show on the radio a couple days ago.  I’ve seen him twice before, but my wife has not.  I’m ambivilent about going.  Not going to have any other opprotunities to get down there.  The entire line-up as a whole, in my opinion, is only marginally better than last year.  Last year was one of the worst I can recall.  The acts I would go to, if I could are:

Tom Petty on the 25th or 26th
    BB King on the 27th
    John Hiatt on July 3rd

I’d be curious to see DEVO perhaps.

Beyond that, nothing else really intrigues me.

  2. Nope.  Same old, same old run of the mill acts: too much country western, too many aging rockers, and too predictable flavor of the month pop stars, such as Justin Bieber.

    Boring.

Remember kids, be sure to drink more Ovaltine, and smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!

  9. Haven’t been to Summerfest in many, many years. Too many drunks; over-priced food by vendors whose regular establishments I can enjoy at half the cost.

Love the enthic festivals, especially Arabian Nights and Indian Summer. No booze and adventurous food!

State Fair is still the best if you avoid the Midway!!!!

  10. Guess I’m showing my (Ovaltine-drinkling age). Don’t go anymore because:

    1) The city installed very nice seating, but everyone stands, so a lot of damn good they do.

    2) Too loud; I have to wear earplugs to stand it, and doing so rolls-off all the high frequencies.

    3) Bad mixing: Thump-Thump-Thump. Can’t distinguish the bass drum from the bass guitar.

A clue for you Ovaltiners: The Fond du Lac Country Fair. Excellent mixing, excellent sound systems and polite patrons. I saw Heart, Sawyer Brown & Eddie Money there and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

  11. I was at Bummerfest once many, many years ago. Way too crowded.  Way too loud.  Way too many drunkards. No bathrooms.  Found out that it was a rock festival and not a music festival.  I looked at the line up of acts and only recognized one or two.  No bluegrass music.  No Southern Gospel music.  Why would I go?  If they booked Rhonda Vincent, Claire Lynch, Alecia Nugent, Dry Branch Fire Squad, or a Southern Gospel act like The Booth Brothers, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, or Gold City, then I might be inclined to go.  Otherwise, Summerfest sounds like a terrifically boring time for me.

  12. Saw Tom Petty & ZZ Top last night. I’ve seen a lot of concerts in my life, but that was my first time at the Marcus Ampatheater. I was NOT impressed.

Both shows were excellent, but the acoustics in that place are horrible. Too many echos and reflections off the metal roof and support structure. Instead of crystal clear music, you hear a muddy mess of noise. I’ll never go back.
