Hopefully this will help some.
Thanksgiving holiday travelers bracing for clogged airports, long lines and delayed flights got some cheery news Thursday when President Bush ordered measures to cut congestion in the skies.
Not all the steps will take effect for the Thanksgiving rush - which officially starts today - but a move to open unused military space from Florida to Maine will affect Milwaukee travelers heading to the East Coast for the holidays.
The “Thanksgiving express lanes” for commercial traffic will be open from Wednesday to Sunday next week, the busiest travel time for the holiday. The plan will also be used during the Christmas travel season.
The Federal Aviation Administration is imposing a holiday moratorium on maintenance projects that are not essential so FAA equipment and workers will focus on keeping flights on schedule. The agency will also try to improve efficiency by using more precise routes for takeoffs and landings, rerouting airspace and using technology to fill unused space in the air and on the ground.
I’m going to be interested to see how this works out. I’m not overly optimistic.
Nor am I, AB.
