Texas is preparing to give college students and professors the right to carry guns on campus, adding momentum to a national campaign to open this part of society to firearms.
More than half the members of the Texas House have signed on as co-authors of a measure directing universities to allow concealed handguns. The Senate passed a similar bill in 2009 and is expected to do so again. Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who sometimes packs a pistol when he jogs, has said he’s in favor of the idea.
Texas has become a prime battleground for the issue because of its gun culture and its size, with 38 public universities and more than 500,000 students. It would become the second state, following Utah, to pass such a broad-based law. Colorado gives colleges the option and several have allowed handguns.
It would seem since you don’t hide the fact that you are a Republican that you automatically support any pro-gun law.
However, I do not comprehend how you think this is “great!”.
What makes you think that everyone who wants to carry a gun everywhere they go should be allowed?
Knowing that some assclown who just failed his organic chemistry exam (or better yet, college algebra) may pull out his pistol and shoot the sky (or the teacher, or me) is not cool. It is not even close to cool.
It is the opposite of great—it is the worst idea this year to come out of Texas.
No, I don;t hide the fact that I’m a Texan and I support free people exercising their right to keep and bear arms. Your fear is unfounded and irrational. Let go of the hate.
You mean like the guy at VT, Kryptonite? Oh, wait, they don’t allow concealed-carry there. Nevermind…
Knowing that some assclown who just failed his organic chemistry exam (or better yet, college algebra) may pull out his pistol and shoot the sky (or the teacher, or me) is not cool.
So what’s keeping some assclown from doing that under existing law?
Here’s a hint… nothing.
“Texas has become a prime battleground”
That’s waht we’re trying to tell you
Yes grumps and the outcomes should all be that finally the good folks can carry weapons.
This is actually a common sense thing to do if you really give some thought to the matter. Law-abiding good people don’t go to Walmart, Menard’s, Culver’s or anywhere else and shoot people. Why would anyone think they would conduct themselves any different on a college campus? Only the law-breakers do senseless deeds like that. So….would it not only be logical, given that we know the law-breakers will be armed as they choose wherever they go (other than the few places that have metal detectors), that the law-abiding also be armed? Since there are far more good guys than bad guys everyone will be safer.
I build custom .45’s. I handle firearms every day. I am 64 years old. And, to date. not one gun I own or have worked on has jumped off the table to harm anyone. It takes two for a firearm to inflict harm! Since the firearm cannot act on its own, let’s focus on the person in possession that decides to fire it!!
