Taylor Supports Higher Taxes in Milwaukee County

Senator Taylor tells us what she’d like to do as County Executive - raise taxes

The candidates for Milwaukee County executive split sharply today on taxes, with challenger Lena Taylor suggesting she might support an increase in the sales tax and incumbent Scott Walker opposed.

Taylor, a state senator speaking at a candidate forum, said she’d “be open” to considering an increase to support county transit, if residents told her they favor that. She did not say how large an increase she might favor.

Taylor also said “yes,” when asked whether she’d support extending the stadium sales tax to help pay for local transportation and housing needs when Miller Park borrowing is paid off. The 0.10% stadium tax has been projected to expire in 2014.

That’s a heck of a campaign slogan.  “Vote for Taylor for Higher Taxes!!!”  It gives me chills.

  1. Thanks for continuing to highlight this race, Owen.  It’s priority number one for me right now and you’ve reminded me to cut Walker a check and sign up for his volunteer lists.

I was living in Janesville during the Ament scandal and I remember shaking my head in disbelief about the whole issue while listening to Sykes, Belling, etc. and now that I live in Milwaukee Country I’m scared stiff that there’s anyone here that wants to go back to the way things used to work.  It literally makes me want to pound my head into the wall.

Good news though: one of my most openly liberal neighbors is JUST as pissed off that anyone wants Walker out and is planning to construct a “Liberals for Walker” yard sign.  Man I hope there are more like her out there…

  2. Why would Walker advocate time and time again for a Parks District with taxing authority, and say that they would have to raise taxes to do the job, if doesn’t think taxes need to be raised.

Walker is simply doing his usual bit of trying to shove off his responsibilities.

Bonus trivia:  Can you name the year that Walker didn’t have a budget blow up by midyear, if not sooner?

  3. Can you name a year that the stupid Milwaukee county board didn’t ignore his proposals, increased spending without adequate funding, over-rode his vetos and then blamed him for the problems?

  4. So, she wants to extend the sales tax.  And does she expect Milwaukee cCounty will get all the money from the tax?  How will that fly in say, Waukesha, Racine, Ozaukee, and Kenosha Counties?  Not very well, i suspect.

  5. Can you name the year that the state budget supported by Lena Taylor blew up and is $650 million dollars short? (and that her buddy Jim Doyle will seek to raise taxes and fees)  I’ll just tell you…it’s THIS year.

Can you name the year that Lena Taylor unsuccessfully pushed for a $15 BILLION dollar tax increase, in additions to the tens of millions in tax and fee increases she was successful in raising? (Hint: 2007)

  6. Capper- A park authority is the only way to save the parks.  We need a dedicated funding system.

  7. Save the parks from what?  Returning to their natural state?  Just think of what we could do to combat global warming if we mowed less often.

  8. Lena Taylor must be running on a secret agenda of promoting growth in Waukesha, Ozaukee, Racine and Washington counties.
