Tattooed Vaccine

Huh.

Scientists in Germany say that tattoos could be the ideal way of delivering vaccines into the body.

The researchers say that in tests undertaken with mice, tattoos were much more effective in provoking a response from the immune system.

Tattoos could be a useful way of delivering therapeutic vaccines in humans, including for some cancers.

Such vaccines have often failed to produce the expected immune response when delivered using an injection.

  1. Wouldn’t it be painful? I have not tried getting a tattoo but having your skin repeatedly pricked by needle… it doesn’t sound so inviting to me.

  2. Sorry, if I don’t like the idea. Maybe there’s another way on how to put vaccine in human body. I think it would be so painful.

  3. Actually, it depends on WHERE you get the tattoo.  Places that are “bony” (hips, ankles, feet, wrists, shoulder blades) are worse than places that are more fleshy (upper arm, thigh, etc.).

Don’t get me wrong - tattoos still hurt (remember the episode of “Friends” where Rachel gets a tattoo?).

But if my boss - who literally broke out into a sweat when she had to go for a shot - can get a tattoo, it can’t be *unbearably* horrible.  Also, the body has a way of numbing itself; after a while, the pain doesn’t go away completely, but it isn’t excruciating.

If I needed a vaccine injected in this manner - I’d be there.  I think this is a pretty cool discovery.

  4. Just think, and the 30-40 year old women with the tramp stamps will outlive us all!
