Take Gas Tax Increase Out of Budget

Good for Representative LeMahieu.

The oil franchise fee, proposed by Governor Jim Doyle in his 2007-2009 Wisconsin State Budget and lauded by legislative democrats has received stern opposition by citizens of Wisconsin as a mere gas tax increase. Numerous groups including the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute and Wisconsin Legislative Council have already written documents stating that the Democratic proposal will lead oil companies to pass on the additional costs of the franchise fee to Wisconsin consumers to the amount of a 5 to 7 cent increase at the pump.

“It’s imperative to the taxpayers of the state of Wisconsin that the Republicans act like Republicans and kill this oil franchise fee now.”  said LeMahieu “The Assembly Republicans are the last line of defense when it comes to making or breaking this budget.  We must stand firm behind our constituents, and our constituents don’t want to pay more at the pump, period.” exclaimed LeMahieu “The time for talk is over, the time for action is now, all Republicans both Assembly and Senate should stand with me and oppose this additional gas tax increase.”
