Table 50

I had dinner at Table 50 in downtown Roanoke, Virginia, a few nights ago.  It was so good, that I thought I would tell y’all about it.

It’s a small, cozy restaurant in a renovated downtown space.  The copper tables provide a glow from the dim lights.  Our meal began with pan seared scallops with a creamy Parmesan sauce and crab claw appetizers.  They were simply sensational.  The scallops melted in your mouth and the sauce was so good that I spent some time mopping it up with bread to eat.  The crab claw dish was just cold crab claw meat with a delicious mustard highlight.  Great stuff.

Before dinner I has the Crab Bisque.  Only three words for this one… hummana hummana hummana.

For dinner I had the lamb chops with a vegetable ratatouille.  The lamb was cooked to a rare to medium-rare and simply melted in my mouth.  It had a berry glaze that provided just a hint of sweetness to the succulent morsels of meat.  Coupled with a fine glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, the lamb came back alive in my mouth to share its joy at being enjoyed so immensely.

My friend also shared with me a piece of his blackened tuna steak (rare).  I’m not a big fan of tuna, but his meal was also excellent.  I almost wanted to switch… OK, I wanted to eat both of ours, but I had to settle on just my meal.

The prices were a bit high, but well worth it.  A meal for three people including appetizers, tip, and bottle of wine was $220.

Anyway, I travel a fair amount and eat out a lot.  This was one of the finest meals I’ve had in a long time on the road (my wife’s bacon-wrapped venison loins were a bit better).  If you happen to be in Roanoke, check out Table 50.

There are no pictures of me because Jed just lets me post here because I’m his ol’ ladies ol’ lady.  I didn’t earn any boots or a saber, I’m just a blogger by marriage.

I’m in the bottom picture here:  http://www.bootsandsabers.com/index.php/weblog/permalink/back_home1/

  5. I got a little embarrassed when you started talking about Wendy’s bacon-wrapped loins but, what the heck, if it’s that kind of a blog it’s that kind of a blog.

  7. It reminds me a bit of my own conversations with the spouse.

“What did you have for lunch?”
“Umm, you really don’t want to know.”

And we’re living off peanut butter and jelly sandwich crusts!
