Supporting Our Troops

Way back when, Kim DuToit spearheaded an effort by the Nation of Riflemen to provide some high-quality equipment and care packages to a group of snipers from the Army’s 2/4 Infantry Division.  The effort was very successful, collecting enough money to buy the snipers some of the best optics available, and providing care packages full of the little things that make a deployment almost bearable.

Well, the Deuce Four Snipers are now the 3/2 Stryker Cavalry Regiment, and they are redeploying to Iraq.  In an effort to help them out once again, the Nation of Riflemen (through the Nation of Volunteers Foundation) is launching a new fundraising effort.

Payments can be made through PayPal at the link located on the right side of this page, or via snail mail to:

The Nation of Volunteers
Suite 100-363
3020 Legacy Dr.
Plano, TX 75023

(Make checks payable to “Nation of Volunteers.”)

The NoV/NoR hasn’t yet received the list of specific items needed, but that shouldn’t stop you from giving.  This is your chance to help out a great group of soldiers.  Drop on by and give a buck or twenty.  The lives you save may be theirs’.

UPDATE:

Here are a few photos of the 2/4 in action during their last tour, courtesy of their website.

  1. Just how long is that sucker?

  2. Assuming you’re talking about the first pic, that’s the Barrett XM107—29” barrel, and an overall length of 57”.

  3. Poor guy is still using the old fashioned telescoping stock on the M-4. We ought to buy them some of these. Saw a short about ‘em on American Rifleman or Shooting USA, can’t remember which… the guy who invented it moved the whole recoil action above the bolt and over the forward grip, instead of into the stock.

Jed, what is the gun being shot in the second picture? It almost looks like an M-1 carbine, but that can’t be right can it?

  4. The gun in the second picture has to be a M1A.  It has a removable magazine.

  5. M-14.  The NightForce scope on the M-14 is one of the optics we bought the first time around.

The soldier with the M-14 is Sgt Walter Gaya.  Sgt Gaya and Sgt Adam Plumondore met Kim DuToit at a shooting function, and that’s how this program got started.  If you haven’t seen it yet, go read Michael Yon’s dispatch chronicling the fights in which Sgt Plumondore was killed, and Sgt Gaya was badly wounded.

  6. So what comes next?  We’ve already stooped to private donations for optics and body armor.

When do we start putting sponsor logos on the Bradleys?  Do we sell name rights to the forward bases in Iraq and Afghanistan?

  7. grumps,

Have you ever had any experience with the military supply and acquisitions system?  I bet not.

We’re giving these soldiers the rare opportunity to select the gear they want rather than just taking what is GI issue.  We’re also providing a lot of the smaller comfort items that aren’t available through the supply system (snacks, baby wipes, entertainment).

I knew that eventually someone would try to score political points from our efforts.  Congratulations on being the first (at least in this forum), and thanks for showing your “support.”

  8. You might also add, Jed, thanks for entirely missing the point.

But that would mean Grumps would have to put aside his hatred for a second.

That M-14 is a thing of beauty.  I’ve wanted one of those for a while now.

Great program, and yeah, what they give you works but what you select for yourself is often better.  This is a great program.

  9. Yes, Jed, I was refering to the really long one!  LOL I have a great deal of respect for anyone who can carry that thing.  It’s only a few inches shorter than I am.  big surprise
